You had one hell of a contract year! :snicker:

That had to be one of the worst years for a player that was trying to get paid the BIG BUCKS! It was his contract year and he had his worst year EVER. :lmao:

:lolpoint: Nate "Burnt Toast" Clements

Nahhh. Better to get him at a multiple year deal which is affordable in case he needs to be moved to safety to replace one of the Geezers. You think he will bite at McGee's deal?

I hope we can get him back for a decent price.

I wouldn't go as far as to say always, but he certainly has cost us his share of games, and has had one miserable season in 05. Still, he is a solid DB, shouldn't command too much money in the market, and we cannot afford to lose any more decent players at this point. I say offer the man a reasonable contract, give him some decent up front cash, and get his ass signed asap. Besides, as much as I love McGee, I really do not think he is capable of lining up across the opposing team's No.1 every week.

And Clements is?

No, he's probably gone. I'm hoping that we trade him to Oakland for Charles Woodson, straight up. Give Woodson the money.

Is Woodson finally healthy?

ublinkwescore
01-01-2006, 09:08 PM
I don't want woodson either - if he is finally healthy, you know how injury prone he is?

HELL NO.

I'd rather just draft the best CB available in the early third (titan pick ha ha!!), and develop him - we'll be fine with McGee and King or whoever else + 3rd round DB if we just address the line and give our DB's shorter time to have to cover recievers. Someone on here mentioned Will Allen from the Giants - if that's an option during FA, I'm all for him provided we fix the DL (one stud DE, one stud DT)

I don't agree. Last year his numbers were sick. Crisis posted this months ago. I think he just had a bad year like the entire team. Check this out

Week 1 - Jimmy Smith - 4 recepts, 83 yards. (INT)
Week 2 - Joey Porter - 3 recepts, 45 yards.
Week 4 - David Givens - 4 recepts, 86 yards.
Week 5 - Santana Moss - 2 recepts, 62 yards. (FF)
Week 6 - Chris Chambers - 3 recepts, 23 yards.
Week 7 - Travis Taylor - 2 recepts, 52 yards.
Week 8 - Anquain Boldin - 4 recepts, 50 yards. (SACK)
Week 9 - Santana Moss - 6 recepts, 157 yards. (McGee was covering Moss when he broke a big score to inflate his yard total, and Clements covered McCaries for part of the game, who was 2-27.
Week 10 - David Givens - 5 recepts, 66 yards. (INT)
Week 11 - Torry Holt - 8 recepts, 90 yards. (FF, Punt return TD) - A decent game for Clements, but Bulger also had 45 attempts in the game.
Week 12 - D. Jackson - 4 recepts, 45 yards.
Week 13 - Chris Chambers - 5 recepts, 49 yards. (INT)
Week 14 - Antonio Bryant - 4 recepts, 37 yards. (INT) Most of Bryant's yardage came in garbage time, the Browns had negative offensive yards until late in the 4th quarter.
Week 15 - Chad Johnson - 2 recepts, 10 yards. (FF) Clements shuts down the league's leader in receptions (at the time) to 2 receptions for 10 yards.
Week 16 - Brandon Lloyd - 2 recepts, 25 yards. (INT)
Week 17 - Hines Ward - 2 recepts, 11 yards. (INT for TD)

Here are Champ Bailey's numbers

Week 1 - Eddie Kennison - 6 recepts, 101 yards. (INT)
Week 2 - Jimmy Smith - 3 recepts, 69 yards.
Week 3 - R. Caldwell - 3 recepts, 39 yards.

Today, Ty Law was the shutdown corner that Nate isn't.

A shutdown corner not only prevents receptions, he prevents QB's from throwing his way. And if they do, then a shutdown corner intercepts it. If he's a great shutdown CB, he also takes it to the house. Ty schooled Nate today.

Nate may command near $2 mill here or on the open market based on availability of other corners, but do we need to pay him that much just so he can watch WR's catch the ball or drag him after he gets there late?

I bet some team out there pays top dollar for him just cuz he's overhyped. It's not like anybody outside of Billsnation watches Bills games and truely knows how bad he is anyways.

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking, also. There are plenty of dumb teams who seem to go with the public opinion vs. actual performance.

It wouldn't shock me if he's given $5M / year. Well, it would shock me if Buffalo gives it to him.

He had some good seasons for us, but in bad times you can truely weigh the talent of "great players" because the great ones rise to the occasion and captain the ship... all Nate did was sink with it.

If it weren't for London Fletcher and at times Schobel, this defense would have ranked dead last in everything. McGee out played Nate this year and I'm glad we locked him up because he keeps improving every year.

yeah, but if we can keep Nate for cheap after his actions prior to this season ('oh I'm the best, and I want a Champ like deal'), I'd say we keep him - this could very well have been just an off year - and if they only come once every five years, I'll take it without second thought or hesitation.

yeah cuz he's not a #1 corner, everybody knows this. nate supossedly is.

he did his job, nate didn't. plain and simple. plus mcgee is still developing as a CB.

Keep in mind we had a top 3 defense last year. Anybody would have looked good in it.

Top 5 CB's don't let team injuries radically alter their performance. If anything, they become the lone shining star amongst a sea of mediocre play. Hardly an honor Nate can claim.

Nate's play slipped in a big way this year which shows teams weren't afraid to attack him. So called "top 5 CB's" don't get picked on like that because they bring their "A" game no matter what.

Dump Nate. He is nothing but an average CB unless he's backed up by a top defense. We can get the same performance for 1/5 the price in free agency.
