A little blurb from Lenny P. at espn.com:

Even though he hasn't been officially dismissed yet, defensive coordinator Jerry Gray will not be back with the Buffalo Bills. The team did not want to affect his opportunities to interview for head coaching positions by firing him now.

I kind of figured that's what was going on.

the purge is almost complete.....

he deserves to be fired. I'm so sick of seeing gaping running holes at the LOS and watching our DB's play 8 yards off the LOS on 3rd and 3.

With veteran safeties like Vincent and Lawyer, we could actually pull that off.

If gray ends up with the texans I don't know how they will handle all that defensive personnel. Most of the guys on their defense are 3-4 material(Jason Babin). Who knows if they could adjust to a 46D.

I've been pitching the Cover 2 from the beginning!! I think it's our best chance to get our defense turned around without a major conversion like moving to the 3-4. I think we have the personel for it too, short of two dominate DT's. (one if Sam stays) The current Cover 2 teams are dominating the league in D this year. (Chicago, Tampa, Colts)

Anyone aware of coordinators out there with Cover 2 experience?

I think Sam will be gone since Mularkey's staying. The two can't seem to work together.

The only way Sam stays is if we get a DC who can appease Adams and be a buffer between him and MM.

I'd still like to see us put some offers on the table for Corey Chavous.

And if we bring Cottrell in - that could be good bait.

I think it was Krumrie who Adams' didn't get along with.

What they are doing is exactly what the Steelers did with Mike Mularkey two years ago. The Steelers knew that the Buffalo Bills and other teams were interested in their Offensive Coordinator, but they wanted to fire him. To save money, they kept him on until the Bills hired him and then they owed nothing on his contract.

That is too bad. He is a heck of a coach. As long as people follow his direction

But Cottrell doesn't know Cover 2. Unless we're converting to 3-4 instead.

Buffalobills.com has the story up on Gray going to Texas to interview. Says he evaluated what they need to do on O, basically get everyone on the same page he said.

Uh Jerry, you need to get SOME BLOCKERS FOR SACKMAN.

Well, if he takes over as HC, at least Carr will be safe in practice, 'cause the D sure won't be able to get to him.

You know Cottrell coached in Minnesota the last few years, the same place Corey Chavous was playing (and looking pretty damn good while at it).
