Happens everywhere on all levels. My uncle was a high school basketball coach in a small town for a number of years and he'd tell stories of how, if the team lost, he'd get random vulgar phone calls from people in the community.

Although he may still be talked into staying on the job, league sources told ESPN's Chris Mortensen and ESPN.com on Thursday that Buffalo Bills coach Mike Mularkey was in an afternoon meeting with high-ranking team officials that could lead to his resignation.

If is believed that the meeting includes Bills owner Ralph Wilson and newly-appointed general manager Marv Levy.

Sources said that, because of family considerations, Mularkey intended to walk away after only two seasons, but felt that he needed to meet with Bills management before he formally tendered his resignation. Mularkey had lengthy meetings with Wilson last week as the Bills owner dramatically reshuffled the football operation.

Wilson fired team president/general manager Tom Donahoe, re-hired Levy, the Hall of Fame coach who led the Bills to four Super Bowl appearances, and made other changes to the front office. It is believed that Wilson also suggested changes in the coaching staff and Mularkey subsequently dismissed five assistants.

In two seasons, Mularkey has compiled a 14-18 record, including a disappointing 5-11 mark in 2005.

Saunders intriques me (now that I googled to find out who he is!)

He is from the Gibbs/Vermeil/Martz coaching line, the offense descended from Air Coryell and Sid Gillman.

Loves to run the ball and throw vertical timing routes. You'd have to get some OL and a TE that has the speed to challenge the deep middle of the field, but you need that anyway.

Bills | Mularkey to resign?
Thu, 12 Jan 2006 12:51:27 -0800
ESPN's Chris Mortensen reports Buffalo Bills (http://www.kffl.com/team/9/nfl) head coach Mike Mularkey (http://www.kffl.com/player/7754/nfl) reportedly met with team president Ralph Wilson and general manager Marv Levy Thursday, Jan. 12, about resigning from the head coaching post. The resignation is not forced, as Wilson and Levy are trying to convince him to stay.

Why try to convince someone to stay if they want to leave. It's like some pathetic little geek trying to convince his girlfriend who is dumping him to stay. I say be gone.

Sure his family shouldn't be hearing "your dad sucks" from other people but that's life as NFL head coach. I say let him go if he wants to leave it just shows he has no balls.

Bring in Mike sherman. He proved he can win in GB and he'll turn this team around to.

Haslett isnt Mike Sherman, but hes not a bad coach. Bilichek wasnt stellar his first go round either.

Do you remember how bad the Saints were? This past season they get a bye.

The Saints were pretty talented, though. They only made the playoffs once despite being strong on both the offensive and defensive lines.

The biggest knock on Haslett was his teams were stupid and undisciplined. I can see losing because you suck, but when your team takes lots of dumb penalties and makes mistakes at crucial times that is a sign of not being prepared.

Of course, a lot of their talented players had baggage, so you can cut him a little slack for having to deal with headcases.

ShadowHawk7

No sherman, i watch every packers game out here in iowa. his play calling sucks and half the time his team is unprepared for who they play. All my friends are die hard packer fans and all agree that the only reason they went to the playoffs is b/c of Farve, they also point out that over the last few years Chi, Min, and Det have all really sucked. They all agreed that the only way that they would have wanted sherman to return this year was if it guaranted Farves return. Please no Sherman, if you thought that MM play calling was bad you should have seen Sherman's, it was very similar.

AndreReed83
01-12-2006, 04:16 PM
I don't get the fascination with Sherman either. As many players on his teams have liked him, he's had a ton of alienations as well and as hydro said, his playcalling is terrible.

I think he is avalible, he might have signed a big contract but he is still an asst. coach. I think if a team offers a higher position to him he can go to that team. The question is will he and is he worth that much money. Bill fans can't deny, Williams had a dominant D on the field while he was HC. Imagine if the Bills were to somehow get Williams as the HC..(again) and Mike Martz as the OC. That would make the Bills a pretty scary team, no matter the talent.

First of all, that is deplorable to attack the family. Just because someone does not approve of the coaching job MM is doing does not give them any right to belittle the family members.
Secondly, this just shows what a terrible job TD did at selecting a head coach. After his first screw up in hiring Williams he could of hired the talented Charlie Weiss. Instead he goes with MM who now wants to quit. While I am not a fan of MM I was willing to give him another chance with Marv running the show... At least TD will not be picking the head coach except now Buffalo is behind the 8 ball in the coach recruiting process...

we are supposed to have that kind of tight end in Kevin Everett.. last years 3rd rounder from miami. he will be more than a year removed from the injury by the time TC comes around.

on saunders'

Simply put, Saunders has presided over the NFL’s most prolific scoring offense over the last four seasons. During that span, no NFL team has registered more points than the 1,754 accumulated by the Chiefs, an average of 27.4 ppg. In 2004, Kansas City scored 30+ points in five consecutive games, a first in team history. The Chiefs led the NFL in scoring in both 2002 and 2003, becoming the first AFC team to lead the league in scoring in back-to-back seasons since San Diego in ‘81-82. During the 2003 season alone, the Chiefs piled up a franchise-record 484 points after registering a league-high 467 points in 2002.

just wondering though.. why would the chiefs pay for Edwards to come over when they have this guy?

Perhaps they wanted to go in a different direction with a more defensive-minded HC since it's their defense that has been consistently poor under Vermeil.
