Once he learned of the upcoming regime change, I think he tried to get fired. He wanted that $$ cushion from Wilson. But the Old Man didn't bite and stuck to his guns.
When Mularkey caught wind of Marvs return, he probably thought for sure the pink slip was coming and he would laugh all the way to the bank. Then the annoucment that Levy was GM. I bet once he met with Marv and Ralph and he realized what wasn't going to happen, he decided to bail himself out instead. Took a cowards draw by diving behind his family rather then just admitting incompetence.
