The <A href="http://www.kffl.com/link/139">Buffalo News reports Buffalo Bills (http://www.kffl.com/team/9/nfl) general manager Marv Levy has talked to former Minnesota Vikings (http://www.kffl.com/team/23/nfl) defensive coordinator Ted Cottrell (http://www.kffl.com/player/8308/nfl), but at this point Cottrell is not a formal candidate for the team's vacant head coaching position.

The <A href="http://www.kffl.com/link/139">Buffalo News reports the Buffalo Bills (http://www.kffl.com/team/9/nfl) have made preliminary contact with ex-New Orleans Saints (http://www.kffl.com/team/25/nfl) head coach Jim Haslett (http://www.kffl.com/player/1974/nfl), but no interview has been scheduled for him to discuss the Bills' vacant head coaching position.

These look like mere formalities, I'll bet it comes down to either Jauron or Sherman very soon.

Cottrell will get his interview because of the minority rule but I think it's already down to Sherman and Jauron. The rest of this is either deception or a back-up plan in case it doesn't go well with the two choices.

Here's how they should do it...

HC- Sherman
Asst. HC/Defense- Jim Bates
DC- Ted Cottrell

*That's how the Redskins do it. They have Gregg Williams as Asst HC/Defense, and Greg Blache as DC. I like it.

smoke and mirrors in Washington. Williams is Assistant HC because he can only leave if the new job is a promotion. If he's assistant HC on paper, the only job above that in the NFL is Head Coach, meaning he can't leave the team unless he gets an HC job. He serves the same role for the Skins that people called "defensive coordinators" do on other teams.

But none of that matters because there's no way Ralph is gonna shell out to have all 3 of those guys here.

"Money will be no option" -Ralph Wilson.

(He has to prove it of course)

Agreed I bet Cotrell is our DC. Sherman needs to be our HC. I really don't like Marv trying to be the guy to hire assistants, that is the HEAD COACHES job.

so far I don't think he is- I've only heard reports about a search for a HC.

Ralph and Levy both already addressed the issue with the OC and DC. The next coach will have much to say about who is hired in those positions.

Why hasn't Cottrell had a chance at HC?
I'm not saying he's the best candidate, but does anyone know what the knock on him is?

His defensive tactics have been questionable lately.

that's a load of crap. The Vikings quite nearly went on a run and made the playoffs...and they did it because of the defensive side of the ball.

I TOTALLY agree..one of my best friends is a die hard Packers fan. He didn't like Sherman but he LOVES Bates. He said it would be worth it if we get Bates in the deal.

Because he accused the team which interviewed him and selected someone else of being a racist. Sort of makes it difficult to interview unless you knew for sure he was your choice.

In that case, I hope we have an offer on the table for Sherman prior to that.
