Re: Bears DC RON RIVERAholics
Living here in Chicago for the past three years I can tell you Rivera is an up and comer. however, he is not even close to being ready. Here are a few reasons why:
1) The defense didnt need that much retooling. The Bears were destroyed by injuries in 2004 which helped them to that disaster of a record. We all know now that Urlacher is not overrated. The Bears lost Azumah, Traylor and Brown before the season even started. Urlacher played on half a leg for the last six games and the eleven staters maybe played a total of three together. They got healthy and then drafted wisely not getting sucked in by need. Instead of offense, they got Tommie Harris in 2004 and now he and Alex Brown are turning into studs. I think Rivera takes a little too much credit for talent that was already there.
2) Remeber this, Lovie was a DC in St Louis. Anytime Rivera struggled, the insiders always pointed to the fact that it was nice to have Lovie there if he needed someone.
Granted this guy is bright and he is a no-nonsense guy but it is too early. He will make a nice coach someday but not now.
