Bills will miss Wyche; Van Pelt on the horizon?

Friday, it became official that Buffalo Bills quarterbacks coach Sam Wyche was stepping down and his two-year tenure with the team had come to an abrupt end. It wasn't necessarily a surprising announcement, but it's certainly a blow for the Bills' organization.
With Wyche now out of the picture, there aren't a great deal of names that spring to mind as to who his successor will be in Buffalo. Ex-Bills backup quarterback Alex Van Pelt is the lone name that comes to mind. Van Pelt spent 10 seasons with the Bills as mostly a third-stringer, and earned a great deal of respect for his knowledge of the quarterback position. more

I think AVP should be JP's QB coach. Fairchild might want to forgo a QB coach though and just deal with JP himself.

Good article. Hopefully AVP takes over because I'd rather see Fairchild just concentrate on calling the plays.

I'd rather Fairchild just teach JP what he wants him to do, instead of teaching a QB coach who then trys to teach JP.

I have to wonder if Wyche didn't screw JP up some. I mean there was no way Wyche, Clements and MM were on the same page, no way at all. Wyche had winning ways and MM/Clements were bumbling fools.

Poor JP is getting torn in two different directions.

I like the idea of bringing Alex Van Pelt back here. He always did a good job coaching on the sidelines when he was the backup.

Alex can't be QB coach for the BILLS he's under contract with UB (University of Buffalo) at the same position

I bet they would let him out of the contract if he wanted to coach the Bills QBs.

Seems he interviewed elsewhere already, or so it was "rumored/reported".

Re: Bills will miss Wyche; Van Pelt on the horizon?

If ever there was a guy who seemed like a natural fit for a job like this with the Bills, "The Billsbury Doughboy" is that guy.

I don't know if he's got enough coaching experience at this point to be ready to succeed in the NFL as a coach, but, if the Bills are going to have to go with a guy that doesn't have much experience in coaching anyway, I'd rather see them go with someone like AVP who loves the team, the area and really wants to be a coach for them in the worst way (at least that's what it sounded like when he was talking about the team on TV). With an OC like Fairchild who has experience as a QB coach to guide him, I think AVP could be a good hire for the Bills.
Those who do not learn from the past are doomed to repeat it. And, thus it was that they surrendered their freedom; not with a bang, but without even a whimper.
