Tannenbaum will take over as Bradway's five-year reign ends

The Jets will announce today that general manager Terry Bradway is stepping down and will accept a lesser position in the organization.

Assistant general manager Mike Tannenbaum, who was instrumental in the hiring of head coach Eric Mangini, will replace Bradway.

The team will clarify the management change at a 3 p.m. news conference. The changes would end Bradway's five-year run as the Jets general manager. It is expected that he will now take a prominent role in the team's scouting department.

Tannenbaum, a New York native, will take over after nine years in the Jets organization serving as a director of player personnel and senior vice president, among other responsibilities.

During his tenure as senior VP of football operations and assistant general manager, Tannenbaum was responsible for overseeing the team's pro personnel department, professional scouting, and contract negotiations. He also helped managed the team's salary cap.

Prior to joining the Jets in 1997, Tannenbaum spent two seasons in the NFL as a player personnel assistant. He lives on Long Island with his wife and daughter.

This is now Eric Mangini's team. I really didn't think Woody had the balls to do this, excellent move. Him and Herm came in together, and now they leave together. Bradway will be some personell guy but we all know the man is now Mangini.

Sounds like Johnson decided to let Tannenbaum and Mangini set things up the way the the Pats have things set up with Pioli and Belichick in the hopes that they will have similar success.

That's all well and good, but one of these days NFL owners are going to wake up and realize that just because you copy what someone else is doing that has been successful that doesn't mean that you are going to be successful. Every time a team does something that works in the NFL these days, half of the rest of the league immediately runs out and tries to do the same thing. The problem is that no team that has run the WCO has been as explosive or successful as the SF 49ers, teams running the combo 3-4 that Belichick installed with the Pats have not been as good at it, and despite all of T.Donohoe's efforts, the Bills never came close to being as good as the Steelers, etc. Even Bill Parcells has not been able to duplicate the success he had with the NY Giants with the three other teams that he has coached since leaving them! And, Joe Gibbs discovered that he couldn't come back to the NFL and use the system that he was so successful with the first time around in Washington without making some adjustments and changes. THings in the NFL are constantly changing and success comes to teams that find the right mix of players and coaches who can make the right adjustments and aren't afraid to come up with innovations. The copy-cats usually get left in the dust.
