Associated Press is reporting that the Detroit Lions have fired head coach Marty Mourenweig. Look for Steve Mariucci.

this stinks, because i was hoping mooch would sit out a year and be available next year....

Took them long enough. My guess is they waited until after Mariucci became available.

I think you're right Phil. The loser probably would have gotten another year if Mooch had not become available.

They would have done it last week, but you can't make any coaching changes the week of the Super Bowl.

The statement Mhourrrniwwhiiiigggg's job was secure was just a joke anyway.

Why would Mooch wanna coach the Lions? He just had to rebuild the 49ers. Why would he want that kind of challange again?

He's be crazy to coach for them losers in Detroit. They haven't done anything in years. You'd think he'd like to take over a decent team which felt it was time for a change.

Mooch is a native of Michigan, and best friends since childhood with MSU basketball coach Tom Izzo.
Plus, Detroit is not Cincy - they have management and talent to work with.

Well, they have to interview Denny Green first to meet their minority quota, then they'll hire Mooch.

I bet this is why DL hasn't signed on with us. He is probably waiting to see if they are going to offer him the D coordinator job.
