That job – improve the defense of the Bills and get them back into the playoffs..

Before going further, it seems that Rob Johnson has the last laugh on Doug Flutie – Johnson has a Super Bowl ring – and Flutie doesn’t.

Now back to Donahoe and Modrak and the scouting department and everyone connected with the Bills hierarchy. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers sent a message to all other teams – DEFENSE wins games (though that’s been repeated time and time again.) It’s already been noted that in 10 previous Super Bowls where the top offensive team faced the top defensive team – the latter became the champions 9 times. That’s not too shabby.

Everybody writing for BillsZone agrees with that.

So the Bills, in need of a defensive line that will rush to the passer, will be scouring the college kids; the free agents; the draft; and any deals that might be coming along. If anyone recalls when he was hired as head coach, Gregg Williams said that he wanted speed rushers. The Bucs showed what speed rushers can do. They came at MVP Rich Gannon from all sides, burying him with sacks and a quintet of interceptions. The pass rush is as responsible for those picks as anything else.
