Would you Move Up in Trade with NY?

It's looking like the Jets will be shopping for a new QB.. I'm sure they will be very interested in Jay Cutler, but not want to draft him as high as number four overall. This would mean they'd have to pay him on par the same money as Leinhart and Young are going to make. The Jets are already in salary cap hell.

On the other hand, Buffalo's top priority (better be) is the offensive line. D'Brickshaw Ferguson will be there at selection number four.

HOw about a trade that would involve Buffalo and New York? The Jets could still get Cutler at #8 and cheaper than at #4. Buffalo could land the franchise LT that they missed out on in 2002.

Do you pull the trigger on that trade? If so, what trade scenario would make sense for both teams involved? I'm not sure if I'm Buffalo I"d give up a first and a second to move up four spots.

I wouldn't...we have too many needs to give up that much

Re: Would you Move Up in Trade with NY?

The Bills can't afford moving up. Doing so would guarantee a loss of other draft picks. Besides, if both the Jets and Miami are interested in Cutler, I imagine he is going to go higher then previously expected.

The Jets will first "hope" for either Young or Lienart to be there when they pick. If not, that may force their hand and grab Cutler a lot higher then projected. Mort seems to think that Cutler will go in the top 10 as well.

This is only good for Buffalo. While teams that are higher in thedraft order are messing around with Young and Cutler, other more dominant players will be dropping to the Bills.

Stay where you are and let the candy come to you.

Ahh my friend their is a way IMO.

Swap #1's with the Jets, and give them the one of our 3rd rd picks and maybe a 5th rd this year if the wheel needs some grease..... AND a 2nd in 2007. The Jets will be interested in picks and will need them next year too. They have a rebuild project ahead, and might be very interested in a 2007 pick when their cap is in better shape.

We'd still have a 1st, 2nd and 3rd pick in 2006, and a great prospect for LT to pair up with Peters as our bookends for the next 5 - 7. I love the thought of the Brick eventually being our LT and Peters being our RT. To me that's a real good foundation to build the OL on.

To me its a deal that could be swung and work for both parties, but I'm sure there are good reason not to do the deal and we will hear about them.

Then how do you handle the obvious needs at DT? Not to mention the gaping hole we have at LG?

I have to disagree. This is way too much to give up for a rookie LT when what the Bills truly need is a Guard.

Too many holes on the roster to just give away draft picks.

there is no guarentee that brick will be there anyways..

i heard floyd reese on nfl channel on serius yesterday.. he spoke about the qb situation, and it is far from sure that 1) mcnair will be cut 2) volek is their back up who has shown he can start and just got a new contract that keeps him there for a while.

it is far from done that the titans take a qb... i think brick actually makes a lot more sense for them.

The Bills could get a starting LG in early round two of the draft... Or they could go after a starter in FA... Or, they could go after a center and move Preston to guard.

                  Sorry.. Forgot to Add.

UNDER this trade scenario, it would be
                  Round 1- Brick
Round 2- Guard, perhaps Spencer (from Pitt) would would VERY likely be there.
Round 3- DT (Keep Adams and have your new DT split time with Edwards)

I tend to agree with Daryl. Having Brick and Peters for 5-7 is a SOLID foundation for the line. There are 3-4 good guards who will go between late first-mid second. McNally will have better talent to teach than he's had before... Brick, Spencer, Preston, Villarrial, Peters has the makings of a good LONG term line (except for Villarriall who's getting old and will be replaced in 1-2 years.)

Now.. I would NOT give up a first and second straight up for the fourth pick. BUT, I would give up a first and third (since we have two) and maybe a fifth.

I tend to think the Jets would bite for 2 reasons.
                  1) They need picks, and many of them
                  3) they are HURTIN for cash. ESPECIALLY if they tag Abraham.... IF they decide they want Cutler, it would be CHEAPER for them to sign Cutler at #8 than at #4, and he'd still be there at #8.

Precisely. If the Bills were to trade up picks, I would hope it would be thier 2nd rounder for UGA OG Max Jean- Gilles in the bottom of the first. Although, Jean-Gilles has been moving down the draft ranks as of recently. If he doesn't have a noticable day at the combine he may just fall into the Bills lap.

giving up picks when we have so many holes better mean we were super active in FA..

Well we disagree about trading up for a tackle. No biggie.

Keep in mind that the Jets may just pull a fast one, grab Brick with their 1st, then grab QB Omar Jacobs with their 2nd.

Jacobs is highly underrated, IMO, and will make some team very happy they found him in the 2nd round.

Id rather sit tight and take Micheal Huff and then move up to the bottom of rd 1 to pick up Jean Giles.

                          1a. Huff
                          1b. Giles

I totally agree with you there.. I dont see Brick getting past the Jets.. If they go QB, they might very well grab a veteran (on the level of a Holcomb) and develop Jacobs..

Or they might even tag Abraham and then try to trade him to a team for a long-term starting QB (Phillip Rivers)

Pennington is done in NY, but that doesnt equate to Jets taking Cutler, especially when they have SO many other problems.
