Explain the transition tag to me. I dont completely understand it.

• A transition player has received a minimum offer of the average of the top 10 salaries of last season at the player's position or 120 percent of the player's previous year's salary, whichever is greater.

• A transition player designation gives the club a first-refusal right to match within seven days an offer sheet given to the player by another club after his contract expires. If the club matches, it retains the player. If it does not match, it receives no compensation. Transition players can be signed from March 3 through July 22."

Transition tag would be the better option..Backus is not worth top 5 money, maybe top 10.

Transitioned players cannot be traded but franchised players can

Cincy transitioned Spikes. We offered him a nice sweet contract and Cincy didn't match.. No compensation was required......

I have a feeling....Our new Center is already on this roster and it isn't Teague.

Looks like the Jetsies franchised Abraham too:

8.3 Million and they may have to trade him b/c of cap problems. Ouch.

He is their best O-lineman, and their line is just as crappy as Buffalo's. Letting him go would've been the worst mistake they could've made. He might not be top 5, but he's worth it to Detroit.

He's going to get traded. They are severely over the cap and can't afford him at the moment. That's the key words...Wait until the new CBA deal is done. Everyone who is over the cap now will either be under it or very close to it.

""By franchising John, it speaks volumes about what type of player we feel he is, and we stand behind our decision, with the full realization that at this point in time it is in the best interest of the club from both a financial and competitive standpoint," general manager Mike Tannenbaum said in a statement. "

Someones trying to fish for a trade.

Is Backus that good? Not too familiar with him in the last couple years.

According to the many Lions fans that I talked to in Detroit....

No. The line was the big reason why Harrington sucks. :snicker:

Reports I've heard is that the entire Detroit offense sucked (no shocker there)
And that Brackus is a very good LT who had a down year, which Bills fans should be able to relate to Nate Clements. I was all for getting Brackus, but I sure as hell wouldn't pay him top 5 money either.
