View Full Version : What happens if you are over the cap?

I have to admit that this whole salary cap thing gets me confused sometimes. What happens if a team spends over the cap? I read in another post that the Jets are WAY over the cap. Do they get penalized more because of their situation than a team that is only slightly over?

Teams have to be cap complient by 3/1 of any NFL calender year (I believe that is actually the start of the NFL calender). Teams are penalized by the loss of draft picks and/or fines.

The fine used to be 1 mill per each day over the cap. Not sure anymore.
