The guy is an absolute idiot. On numerous occassions he has reported one thing one day, only to turn around the very next day and report the opposite.
Plain and siimple, he's just not a reliable source. In fact, I highly doubt that he even has 1 connection in the NFL. I bet the guy has never even picked up a football in his entire life.
He's just a wordsmith that has mastered the art of transfomring a hypothetical situation into a full blown report. He's wasting everyone's time and ESPN's money.
Let me give you an example:
" I just got done talking with Marv Levy and while he actually never came out and said that he would release Sam Adams, I was under the impression just from the dark tone in his voice that it is strong possibilty, and that it just might occur."
Then, the very next week when the Bills sign Adams to a multi-year contract, a contridiction appears:
"Just as I expected, the Bills are retaining Adams through '08. It was a roller coaster of negotiation where it even seemed for a moment that the Bills weren't even open to contractual talks with Adams agent. blah-blah-blah"
This is Clayton with each and every report. A totally useless weasel. All that he does is report rumor twisted with 2nd hand facts and shakes in a bit of speculation.
