We aren't taking a CB.

Anyway I think the board is moot. Marv will find a way to move up and take D'brick

Having another pass rush threat would do nothing but make the secondary better, and put less pressure on the inside of the defense. Chris Kelsay and Ryan Denney are nothing but servicable back-ups.

Let's look at the Bills needs -

OL- with Mike Williams gone, and Bennie Anderson and Trey Teague not far behind, the Bills will be looking hard for all positions.

What's left- Therer are 3-5 OL men on the board who could go in round 1, (OT Justice, G- Jean-Giles , OT Winston, OT McNiel, OT Scott) and still plenty in Rds 2,3.

DT- NGata is the highest rated on the board, Gabe Watson has a late first, early second rd grade. Orien Harris, Rodrique Right might be on the board in Rd 2 when the Bills pick.

DB- Top CB Jimmy Williams is available, even though the Bills tagged Clements. Clements may be a Bill only 1 more season, though. A lot depends on the new CBA, how much the cap goes up, and if the Bills use the cap space on extending Clements. If you are looking at Safety- there are a lot of options in Rd 2-3. The draft has plenty of DB talent in the 2nd, 3rd, & 4th rounds.

DE- While I think the Bills are adequate at DE, two outstanding prospects are still on the board. Hali and Kiwanuka are there.

QB- If you are itching to get rid of JP, Cutler is available

Offensive weapons- Deangelo Williams is on the board- even though the Bills have McGahee. For those with TE fetishes, Vernon Davis is still here.

I think NGata is the best prospect at the biggest need position for the Bills. Cutler is the big wild card in all of this. Both Detroit and Arizona need a QB - look for Arizona to try and jump ahead of Detroit with a trade down with the Bills.

I still think NGata will be there at 8 or 10, and I beleive the Bills will replace Fat Pat with NGata.

Anyway I think the board is moot. Marv will find a way to move up and take D'brick Seriously- Why would you give up resources, to get a position- that this draft is immensly deep in- the deepest in years.

Would you rather have Dbrick- or Winston Justice AND Davin Joseph

Would you rather have Dbrick- or Eric Winston AND Orien Harris?

Would you rather have Dbrick- or JNGata or Hali AND Jonathan Scott?

Jimmy Williams is the BPA and he could be groomed to replace Troy Vincent or Nate Clements in 2007

I totally agree with this statement. Williams is a classic example of a guy who might slip cause he was injured towards the end of the college season. I think he would be a hell of a safety, and IMO, a starter over Vincent by the end of training camp.

If the board played out like this..

Then I think Jimmy Williams is the pick and he'll play safety in the NFL.
I really think Cutler will be gone before 8 though, which would give us another guy to choose from.

Winston Justice would make tons of sense here. Jimmy Williams would be the second choice not because he is less value that Justice, only because the tagging and forthcoming resigning of Nate would alter our board and place OT at a higher need than DB. Justice can start day one at RT if Peters moves to LT, or may be able to start at LT (many project him there). I think when all is said and done, Justice's stock will rise to being worthy of this pick.

Dude, you stand to be very disappointed on draft day considering you are so hell bent on 2 players. Its likely that NIETHER will be a Bill. Ims ure your going to go balistic when it happens, but I think a more typical look at the draft (through a true GM's eyes) where we take the best value will lead us in other directions.

I cant think of a single GM or HC for that matter who makes their draft 1 or 2 players or bust (outside of Ditka taking Ricky). THAT is the way to the darkside and a sure fire way to end up 1-15.

I cant disagree at all with taking Williams, Ive been one of his biggest supporters for months. But at 8? a S at 8? We know he wont be our starting CB unless Clements is traded somehow which seems very unlikely due to Levy's comments about resigning him. If Clements is still with us on draft day, we would have just resigned McGee, tagged or resigned Clements, andnow we will spend our top pick on a S too? I think thats a bit lopsided on where we spend our money. That would mean a HUGE investment in our secondary when Levy has stated our lines and especially our o-line is the biggest need for improvement. I dont disgaree that Williams is worth the 8 pick, I only feel that other players may be worth more to US!

I agree with others...you gotta take the BPA and I think that the Bills will sign a FA DT to fill Big Pat's shoes.

So, with the 8th pick of the 2006 NFL Draft, the Buffalo Bills select....

DB Jimmy Williams - Virginia Tech

The way this draft is hashing out so far, I would trade down with a team who covets Jay Cutler. Since we aren't doing that, it's between Ngata and Williams. I think Williams has a better chance at being a serious impact player. We can get a DT later or in free agency. Williams athleticism and versatility are too good to pass on...

Great post Dozer, that's way I think it would be smart to try at this point to trade down here, get a few extra picks and a lot of good players at positions left we still need. Having said that if I have to pick at 8 I like:

OT McNiel or OT McNiel here. I think both their teams rush push production in college show that either of thes 2 guys would be a solid pick here.

Buffalo needs to address it's lines before it can address any other position. With Brick gone, there are no other Olinemen that rank high enough to be taken at this position. Therefore we should turn to look at the defensive side. Only 1 DE merits being taken this high and he is gone. Ngata is big and requires double teams to stop him. Sam Adams is big and requires double teams to stop him. It seems perfectly logical, that given what's available and what we need, we should be taking Haloti Ngata.

I agree with those who say the team trades down to pick up an extra pick or two, possibly hoping Hali remains on the board until they get their pick.

If they do stand pat, I'll go with Ngata...we need big men.

Quite honestly, it all depends on what we do in FA.....if the Bills can add help on both lines, the draft becomes even more of an unknown because they could go in almost any direction (DL, OL, DB, LB, WR, even QB)

Time will tell.....

This is the wrost possible scenario Buffalo could find itself in, bc you take a big risk here taking the workout warrior in Ngata. Who plays big against lesser opponents but doesnt show up in big games. Also you could reach here and take Jimmy Williams, who could easily be had 4-5 picks later. Personally I say we trade down and then we take Jimmy Williams. So my vote is for Jimmy Williams, although whoever voted Huff for the raiders is getting negged, bc thats the guy I want here.
