Bills | More about quarterback situation
Sat, 25 Feb 2006 06:19:03 -0800
Allen Wilson (http://www.kffl.com/link/138), of the Buffalo News (http://www.kffl.com/link/139), reports Buffalo Bills (http://www.kffl.com/team/9/nfl) general manager said the third quarterback the team is looking to add to compete with current QBs J.P. Losman (http://www.kffl.com/player/9412/nfl) and Kelly Holcomb (http://www.kffl.com/player/462/nfl) won't be a high draft pick or a high-profile free agent like QB Drew Brees (http://www.kffl.com/player/1650/nfl). "There may be a young one out there," Levy said during a visit with the media at the NFL Combine (http://www.kffl.com/link/183). "Is there one or two in free agency that's not necessarily a blow-you-away guy? Not necessarily a Drew Brees (http://www.kffl.com/player/1650/nfl), for instance. And if he can come in and compete, great." Levy hasn't ruled out using a mid- to late-round draft pick on a passer, but the team wouldn't mind a young veteran with experience. Levy says the Bills' interest in acquiring another quarterback does not mean they have lost confidence in Losman. Levy said Losman has the physical tools to be an outstanding player. Head coach Dick Jauron (http://www.kffl.com/player/1960/nfl) added that someone will go into minicamp penciled in as the starter. Based on last season's performance, Holcomb might be the choice.

I'll also toss in tidbits about the top 4-5 players Bills will be probably picking at #8

Browns | Team would be interested in Ngata at No. 12
Wed, 22 Feb 2006 15:33:31 -0800
Steve Doerschuk, of the Canton Repository, reports Cleveland Browns (http://www.kffl.com/team/13/nfl) general manager Phil Savage said the team's top priorities are players who can rush the passer and stop the run. He said the draft figures to produce more nose tackles than usual. He conceded the obvious, that massive Oregon DL Haloti Ngata (http://www.kffl.com/player/13470/nfl) (6-foot-5, 338 pounds) will be seriously considered if he is available with the No. 12 overall pick. Chances of Ngata going earlier appear to be at least 50-50.

Marv Levy at the combine-

LIKE A ROOKIE: Former Buffalo coach Marv Levy is attending his first scouting combine as the new Bills general manager.
"I've got a lot to learn. It's difficult; it's not impossible," the 80-year-old Hall of Famer said.
Levy coached Buffalo to four straight Super Bowl appearances in the 1990s. He was hired as general manager last month after owner Ralph Wilson fired Tom Donahoe. Buffalo has missed the playoffs six straight years.
"It's great to be back here in the excitement," Levy said. "This serves a great purpose. ... From my standpoint, this was the first chance we had as coaches to see these players, to get acquainted with them."
Levy was 112-70 as the Buffalo coach and worked mostly as an NFL broadcaster while living in his native Chicago after he retired in 1997. After he became GM, he picked former Chicago coach Dick Jauron to replace Mike Mularkey, who resigned after a 5-11 season.
"We want to win immediately," Levy said. "To say you're building is an incomplete sentence. ... You're building for a future coach and general manager."

- He toughest part of the combine for him has been the non-stop pace.

- He has met with the Chiefs, Jets, Bills, and Broncos so far. Is scheduled to meet with the Dolphins tonight. Said he thinks the Chiefs system would be a very easy transition for him.
