Should we try to sign Vinateri or Vanderjagt?

It looks like both Vinateri and Vanderjagt are going to be testing free agency. I know we have more pressing needs, but it never hurts to increase your kicking acuracy and extend your average kickoff length.

Apparently Vanderjagt is intending on not returning to the Colts at all:

"Polian said it was likely Mike Vanderjagt, the NFL's most accurate kicker, would sign with another team. Vanderjagt missed a 46-yard field goal in January's playoff game against Pittsburgh that cost the Colts a chance to force overtime.
"He'll probably elect to go somewhere else, so that's probably a position we'll have to fill," Polian said."

Should we try to get one of these guys? Do you view Vanderjagt as damaged goods?

Vanderjerk is an indoor kicker, I'll pass. He'd have trouble kicking at the Ralph and would probably become a distraction with his mouth. Vinateri would be a great pickup but I doubt we have the cap room to pay him top 3 money.

Vanderjagt has experience in Canada, so weather would not be a problem for him.

As for his mouth, he said something 3 years ago. I think people can get over it. He is one of the most accurate guys in NFL history. His KO's suck though. The Colts have carried a KO specialist the last couple of years.

I remember a game 2-3 seasons ago where Vandy nailed a 45 yard FG to tie the game at the gun, and hit another 50 plus yarder to win it in OT.....on the road..... in a snowstorm.......... in Denver.

Vandy and Vineteri are the two best clutch performers I've seen in the past 5 seasons- bar none.

This year's playoffs not withstanding. The only thing I'm concerned with- and I'd have to reserch it- has been his kicking performance the past season and a half. i know he's had some nagging injuries- i wnat to make sure he's 100% and not in serious decline.

But if this team is going to be a grind it out- smashmouth team relying on defense and a conservative offense- then yes- i would pay top dollar for a clutch kicker.

I forcast a lot of 16-13 games next season. FG kickers are that much more important.

I just wonder if we will have the money available? We have so many other needs and Lindell actually wasn't too bad last season. He seemed to find a new leg and made some pretty long FG's last season (the 50+ yarder at SD especially comes to mind) and I bet that will be enough to save his spot.

Vinateri is worth 3mil/yr, but he's the only kicker in the league I'd consider paying top dollar to.

V-jagt is good, but not worth the extra $$'s we'd have to free up to get him here. I'll keep Lindell over him, thank you.

Vineteri is money and has proven himself in far more important games than the liquored-up kicker from Indy.

I'd feel better though if they would focus on getting the O to score a couple more TD's a game so we wouldn't need to depend on a clutch kicker.

Cut a overpaid lindell and bring in one of them. Your team is one or two wins better.

Vinateri but only because he can kick in this environment.

I don't see them going after him though. Too many other needs.

If we have a good offense kicking game is secondary. That is the mind track our FO should be on.

Yes and yes. I would go after both if the money was not outrageous.

No. Lindell did a good job las season, and Buffalo needs to spend their cap money elsewhere.
