There is a chance we have no cap room at all.

Did you know that "NLTBE" is an acronym for Not Likely To Be Earned? It's a contract incentive that a player probably won't reach, like a $1 million bonus for Daimon Shelton rushing for 1,000 yards.

Well, if the CBA isn't extended by Friday, teams will have to count all their existing NLTBE's in their salary structure at the start of the season. That would occupy salary cap space that might go toward free agents, or extending player contracts.

Not true......NLTBE's only count when earned. Teams need to plan ahead for the possibility that players will achieve them, but if a NLTBE existed for Shelton like you described, the Bills would not likely keep open $1 million for it.

Also, if a player has a LTBE, it counts on the cap but as soon as that player can no longer achieve that incentive, the teams cap is credited by that amount at the point in which the player cannot achieve it.

Hypothetical situation....Moorman does not have any such bonuses that I'm aware of....

Moorman has $500,000 Pro Bowl bonus in 2005...it's NLTBE because he did not make the PB in 04....he makes the PB in 2005, Bills pay the bonus, but it counts on 2006 cap in 2 ways: as part of their cap adjustment and IF he has a PB bonus in 2006, $500,000 counts as LTBE (any amount greater is NLTBE). Moorman does not make PB in 06 because he gets hurt early in the season, Bills get the $500,000 credited back at that time.

Again, this is an explanation, not actual
