I borrowed this idea from Two Bills Drive. ESPN predicts that we may seen about 60-80 players cut from their teams between today and yesterday. So it is going to be a busy day. The current deadline for teams to release players to get under the cap has been changed from 4pm ET to 10pm ET. Use this thread to post the latest Cap releases all throughout the NFL.

I think 80 - 100 may be a bit extreme. But it is an unusual situation.

Oh, the suspense . . .

Oh, the suspense . . .

The number probably includes RFAs that are not tendered.

Michael82
03-02-2006, 10:12 AM
Holy ****, this number is even higher.....

The purging began in earnest Wednesday as more than a dozen players were released by their teams to create cap room. Some of the more notable names to receive their walking papers: Broncos defensive end Trevor Pryce and running back Mike Anderson; Buffalo Bills defensive tackle Sam Adams and safety Lawyer Milloy; Carolina Panthers defensive tackle Brentson Buckner and running back Stephen Davis; and Miami Dolphins cornerback Sam Madison and offensive tackle Damion McIntosh.

"You ain't seen nothin' yet," an executive for an AFC team said Wednesday night. "By this time tomorrow, there could be another 200 players released. And that's probably a conservative estimate."
The NFL owners will meet in New York Thursday to discuss the stalemated talks with the NFL Players Association. But the meeting isn't expected to accomplish much. The biggest obstacle to a new CBA is the owners' own differences over the issue of revenue-sharing, and the league said that subject won't even be broached at the meeting.

Without a new CBA, teams will head into free agency with a much lower `06 salary-cap number (about $95 million) than the one they'd be operating with if there were a contract extension (between $105 million and $110 million). They'll also be operating under a restrictive set of rules regarding how contracts can be structured and what counts against this year's cap.

Bottom line: There are a lot of teams in deep salary-cap doo-doo right now. According to league sources, 13 of the league's 32 teams were over the projected $95 million cap as of Wednesday. Another four were just $4 million or less under it, which isn't even enough cap space to sign all of their draft picks. Most of those teams have spent the week desperately trying to rework contracts to get their cap number down. If that doesn't work, their only alternative would be to release players.

Check out what it says about the Redskins.... :snicker:

In an attempt to get under the cap by Friday's deadline, the Redskins have been trying, without much success, to rework the contracts of several veterans, including offensive tackle Jon Jansen and guard Randy Thomas. They've also been shopping quarterback Patrick Ramsey. According to one league source, the Redskins might have to cut all but 37 of their players currently under contract to get under the cap by Friday.

The Cowboys will release veteran defensive tackle La’Roi Glover today.

Glover was named to the Pro Bowl for a sixth consecutive year and started 13 of 16 games, but his playing time diminished significantly during the season and he ended up being a backup to Jason Ferguson at nose tackle. He had 28 tackles and three sacks during the 2005 season, his lowest totals in both categories since his rookie year.

Glover was scheduled to count $7.2 million against the salary cap, including a $1.5 million roster bonus due on Friday.

Here's our next starting DT to replace Sam Adams.....

Among the expected moves, the team will waive starting nose tackle Ted Washington, and starting guard Ron Stone, among several other players. And a change at quarterback is in the offing, too.

Washington, who turns 38 next month, has been a 16-game starter the past two seasons with the Raiders and has proven himself to be one of the team's most durable and consistent defensive players, despite his age and injury history.

But Washington is scheduled to earn $4.75 million in salary and bonuses this season. His departure will save the Raiders $1.759 million against the 2006 cap.

Stone, 34, started 16 games for the Raiders in 2005, but was limited to five appearances in '04 because of chronic knee problems. His departure will save the team $2.76 million against the cap.

The Raiders also are expected to part ways with fullback Zack Crockett, 33, ($2.079 million in savings), who had been with the team since 1999, as well as nickel cornerback Denard Walker ($4.29 million saved), a former Broncos starter who had been inconsistent in his two seasons in Oakland. In 2005, Walker played in nine games and had two tackles.

Raiders cut 3 Players

As expected, the Raiders waived three veteran players on Thursday, gaining about $8.709 million in salary cap relief.

Cut loose were starting nose tackle Ted Washington, who turns 38 next month, starting guard Ron Stone, 34, who has been slowed by chronic knee problems, and underperforming cornerback Denard Walker, 32, whom the team once projected as a possible starter but became little more than a high-priced special teams player the past two seasons.

The three roster moves, combined with a decision last week not to pick up the 2006 option for injury prone safety Derrick Gibson ($9.937 in cap savings) currently put the team about $12 million over what could be a low-end cap figure of $94.5 million.

Packers Release Diggs, Dutton

posted 03/02/2006

Na'il Diggs

The Green Bay Packers Thursday released linebacker Na'il Diggs and punter Ryan Dutton.

Diggs, a 6-foot-4, 240-pound veteran out of Ohio State, originally joined the Packers as their first of three selections in the fourth round of the 2000 NFL Draft. He played in 84 games, 80 as a starter, recording 541 tackles (390 solo).

Diggs has been pretty solid for 3-4 years straight. He had a down year last year when he switched to teh weakside..

The Seahawks released linebacker Jamie Sharper and cornerbacks Andre Dyson and Michael Harden this afternoon.

Sharper, a nine-year NFL veteran, signed a five-year, $17.5 million contract with the Seahawks last offseason as the team's most high-profile free agent. He was placed on injured reserve Dec. 9 after missing four straight games with a bacterial infection in his right knee.

Sharper played and started eight regular-season games and finished with 37 total tackles. He led the Seahawks in tackles in three games, but the emergence of rookie Leroy Hill and the solid play of reserve Kevin Bentley at outside linebacker made Sharper expendable after the 2005 season.

Dyson played 10 games, making five starts, and also played in all three postseaon games. He had one interception and 10 pass deflections in the regular season but was plagued by ankle and hamstring injuries that forced him out of six games.

I think that they are closer to a deal, so they are going to push back the deadline AGAIN.

It will probably be moved to later in the week if they already completed the CBA. If they are close, they will probably push it back a day or so and then change the date again once they are ready.

(AP) -- The Oakland Raiders (http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/teams/oak/) parted ways with quarterback Kerry Collins (http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/players/3115/) in a move to get them below the salary cap by Sunday night's deadline. By cutting Collins, the Raiders will save $9.2 million against the salary cap once bonuses are factored into the figures.

Rams | Bruce's cap number remained too high
Mon, 6 Mar 2006 05:43:36 -0800
<A href="http://www.kffl.com/link/185">Jim Thomas, of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch (http://www.kffl.com/link/186), reports St. Louis Rams (http://www.kffl.com/team/34/nfl) WR Isaac Bruce (http://www.kffl.com/player/1779/nfl) carried too high of a 2006 salary cap number for the team to keep him on the roster. The Rams (http://www.kffl.com/team/34/nfl) were unwilling to carry Bruce's 2006 salary cap figure of $10.04 million under his old contract. Under terms of that deal, Bruce was scheduled to make $8.1 million this season, including a $1.5 million roster bonus due on the first day of the league year. The delay to the start of free agency gave Rams (http://www.kffl.com/team/34/nfl) management and Bruce's agent, Jimmy Sexton, three more days to work on a deal. They talked numerous times over the weekend. The Rams (http://www.kffl.com/team/34/nfl) offered several proposals beyond the three-year, $9 million extension that Bruce originally rejected. "We do want Isaac to remain a Ram," Rams (http://www.kffl.com/team/34/nfl) president of football operations Jay Zygmunt said. "We're still hopeful that we can get something done in the near future." Bruce apparently was unhappy with the team's proposals that called for Bruce to make $5 million this season, or $3.1 million less than his original deal.

Panthers released Brenson Buckner? We should take a serious look at him.
