Good Luck Ted!!!!!! I hope he gets it!!!!

Even as San Francisco 49ers officials spent Tuesday interviewing New York Jets defensive coordinator Ted Cottrell for their head coaching vacancy, they added another prominent name to their list of candidates, while still hoping to name a successor to Steve Mariucci by next week.

Tampa Bay general manager Rich McKay on Tuesday granted permission for the 49ers to discuss the head coaching job with defensive coordinator Monte Kiffin. Neither a time nor a place for the interview has been established and it isn't even clear yet if Kiffin will pursue the job.

The 49ers sought permission to meet with Kiffin almost immediately after the Bucs' victory in Super Bowl XXXVII.

Cottrell spent much of the day Tuesday huddled with general manager Terry Donahue in Los Angeles. ESPN.com has learned that Cottrell technically is no longer under contract to the Jets, having chosen not to exercise an option earlier this month.

Of course Tampa's defense would look against Oakland in the Super Bowl. They basically had the playbook of the Raiders with Gruden teaching them the signals and audibles.

I hope Ted gets it because not only is he one of the good guys in sports and a very good DC, I wouldn't mind having the Jets lose him...

Exactly. That's why that quota thing is stupid. I'd be disgusted if I were Cottrell.

Same thing happened in Detroit where Denny Green refused the interview. He knew it was only an interview to fill the quota. Detroit never wanted him though. They want Mariuchi. It's pretty insulting. Green's too good a football coach to have to put up with that crap.

Go Teddy!

Kiffin told the Tampa media yesterday that he plans to remain with the Bucs next year.

Your right Shelby. ESPN is reporting he signed a deal to become the highest paid assistant coach in the NFL...

TEddy might actually get this one. If kiffin is out, there's not too many people left.

Unless they give it to Jim Mora, Jr. and keep it in house.

Hells ya, Cotrell took a while, like 19 games, to get the big on paper squat for Jersey to play well. Wade got scrubs in Hotlanta to play very quickly.

Seems like the D plays better when he wears a headset.
