    Bucs keep defensive guru

    The Tampa Bay Buccaneers convinced defensive coordinator Monte Kiffin to stay home by giving him a three-year contract extension Thursday that reportedly makes him the highest-paid assistant in the NFL.

    Kiffin, the architect of the swarming defense that carried the Buccaneers to their first Super Bowl victory, was considered the frontrunner for the San Francisco 49ers coaching job.

    I breathed a HUGE sigh of relief when I heard the news yesterday. It would have been a majorly painful loss for us had he decided to go elsewhere and take a HC position... I half expected him to, and I got so nervous when I first heard the 49ers had received permission to interview him.
