WGR's Mike Schoop says the Bills have contacted the agent for Philadelphia free agent RT Jon Runyan.

I dont even have to say what he'd bring to the table.

How about instant upgrade! Mawae, Runyan. Didn't someone suggest that might be a big chunk of our new OL? Hummmmmmm....

Ralph and marv are retooling, not rebuilding.

If they've contacted him....it's tampering.

Clump....haven't you seen already the NFL doesn't care with all of the putting off of the CBA etc. Hell some guys have contracts already! they just haven't 'officially' (wink wink) signed them yet.

I think the NFL is being lax due to all the BS. I can't blame them.

Marv said part of the reason that Sam Adams and Milloy were released was their age. Then we're contacting Mawae and Runyun? Looks bad....

Miyagi, I think age is less of a factor on the OL.. sometimes it's a plus..

Runyan is still a stud.. Mawae is on his way down... Of the two, gimme Runyan

It wasn't age...it was attitude.

Not sure where the thread for the "pick the first Bill FA" went (or who started it), but for the record, I picked Runyan. I still dont know what zone bucks are for or how you get them, but if they pick Runyan first I think I'm entitled to some?

Not just that, they simply didn't fit within the new scheme. Milloy is an in the box safety with terrible coverage skills. Adams is a two-gap tackle.

A Cover 2 requires safties to play deep and have excellent coverage skills. It also requires one-gap tackles.

I'm not so sure Runyan can stay healthy for an entire year anymore.

Has Runyan been cut already? If so, it is not tampering...

As for Mawae, well he is a UFA...

Who available would be ideal candidates with those aforementioned skills?

Rocky Bernard is considered one of the top one-gap tackles in FA this year. Larry Tripplett is also a one-gap tackle and played in the same type of Cover 2 in Indy. Both Ryan Pickett and his counterpart from St. Louis are one-gappers also.

As for SS, veteran Cory Chavous is considered a deep cover safety who relies on his football smarts to make up for his lost step. Unfortunately Archuleta and Mcree do not fall in to this category as they feel more comfortable near the line of scrimmage.

Those are some of the top FA's I can think of. I'm sure there's more.

I've been on the Chavous bandwagon since the offseason.

I think he'll be fine if Marv builds a line in front of him to interrupt play timing/pressure the QB, and engulf runningbacks.

Not a bad deal if we can land Runyon to take over RT. That would leave Peters to handle LT duties. Even though Runyon is old, he still has that mean streak to go with the position. The next guy should be stephen neal.

Runyan would be a great fill in for a few years.
