Don't the Browns already have a guy named Faine?

yeah, at least....

you'd figure with the OL being the #1 problem on this team they'd at least try to go after the #1 guy to help fix the problem. unbillievable.

Didn't Bentley originally say he wanted to go to the Browns? Maybe they would be willing to trade Jeff Faine?

yeah, the bills might as well take him. they are used to building a team off of other people's garbage. they've already cleaned out the junkyard in pittsburgh, time to take on cleveland's uselessness.

The Browns have signed center LeCharles Bentley of New Orleans, the top-ranked player overall in ESPN.com's ratings of unrestricted free agents. The team also reached an agreement in principle with Atlanta Falcons (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/clubhouse?team=atl) left offensive tackle Kevin Shaffer (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?statsId=6104), ESPN.com's 26th-rated free agent.

Financial details of the contracts were not yet available. While some details remain to be worked out on Shaffer's contract, it will be a seven-year deal worth more than $5 million annually.

Cleveland officials had suggested as the free agency signing period approached that they would be very active, and early on, in addressing key needs.

gee, what a plan they had. maybe it was too confusing to ralph and the boys that they are suppossed to spend the extra money on FA's to fix the problems on the team. oh well, we all knew the team would suck next year, now it just makes betting odds easier.

That seems like a lot of money for Shaffer...

That seems like a lot of money for Shaffer...

if you want to win you pay the guys that you desperately need... if you want to suck for 5+ years you can follow the Bills model.

I'm more concerned Moulds is on the roster at 10.8 and we've done no restucturing anywhere to free up cap dollars than I am we havent signed someone only a 1/2 day into FA

Restructuring doesn't really do much to help our cap right now. The only thing I see happening is London Fletcher to get extended, Eric Moulds to get cut before he is due that roster bonus and then maybe Jeff Posey to get cut or restructured.

wow, thats a lot of money for Shaffer

and it may just be me, but paying $6 million a year to a center is foolish

I'm sure they at least inquired as to what he wanted. Just because the media doesn't report it, that doesn't mean it didn't happen.

Sounds like Bentley had his heart set on a homecoming with Cleveland anyways.

didn't the browns have close to $30 mil in cap room? of course they're going to look more attractive to the big guys out there.

the "splash" signings (especially on o-line, where teams ALWAYS overpay FA's) don't lead to certain doom for everybody else.
