GOOD Move.. MORE than a GOOD move.. Potentially a GREAT move.

Good move.

I wonder if they will try to sign another FA DT or will go for one in the draft....

Marv Levy's comment about the kind of DT that they need to go with Tripplet--a big run stuffer who still has the speed to move down the line--leaves open a number of possibilities. It will be interesting to see which way they choose to go here. They may still be looking at adding two more DTs--a rookie and a vet--depending on how they see Anderson, Sape and, perhaps, Bannan fitting into their system, but might go with a cheaper alternative, a role-player, as the second vet.

Anyone know what kind of contract numbers Tripplet got?

5 years 18 mil with a $5.5 mil signing bonus makes it a great move.

that means he probably counts $2 mil against cap and Royal $1 mil against cap thats pretty good job

I just spent the past hour on various Indy message boards.

The consensus I'm getting from there was Triplett has been an underachiever who stepped it up big time in 2005 and finally played up to this potential. Coincidentally, it was a contract year.. They also suggest he greatly benefitted playing next to Freeney.

Some of these points are valid I'm sure.. But it's also probably a lot of sour milk going on when you lose a key player on your team... He was expendable to Indy because they have great depth on the line.. But obviously to Buffalo he's quite the score.

Royal, who spent the past four seasons with Washington, agreed to a reported five-year, $10 million contract that includes a $2.5 million bonus. Tripplett, who spent the last four seasons with Indianapolis, signed a five-year, $18 million contract that included a $5.5 million signing bonus

I think that he will fit in nicely next to Schobel. We need another heafty DT filling gaps next door though.

I was hoping the Bills took him back in 2002 but the Bills drafted Reed instead

I think we'll sign washington and edwards will be back so our DT's will look good. I am just really happy that that we signed a DT so that means we hopefully wont be drafting Ngata.

I don't think they want Teddy back since they want someone quick that can move down the line, he has knee problems

I agree, but i think he'll come in cheap and help any way he can. But he really does not fit in a cover 2 defense just like adams didnt, and Ngata doesn't. So hopefully we'll trade our pick at 8 and pick up Bunkley a little later and add a 2nd rounder.

Cant help but think Adams would have been a lot more effective with Tripplett next to him.. He wasnt the same player once Pat williams left..

i agree, i think he would have done better even with edwards in there. Our whole D was effected when we lost Pat and when edwards and spikes got hurt our D just didnt have the talent to compete at the high level that they we expected.

I can't complain. A young improving player who fits the scheme. Surely I thought pickett was #1 on the list.

Those 4 sacks will come in handy next year.

If he's a DT, then he's really not going to be required to be a sack-machine, is he?

in this defense, the DTs, in a good cover 2, the DTs can get 5-10 sacks a season.

True, that's why Triplett is a great fit. I like it a lot, but I'd liked to see them add another DT via free agency and have some more choices at the #8 spot in the draft.

Well he gives up 2 inches and 50 lbs to Sam Adams so I don't know how much of an improvement he is as a run stuffer. Also he started only 4 games last year so he was essentially a backup to Simon.

Not saying it is a "bad" pick, but hardly the major improvement that we so *desperately* need. Maybe that comes later but I'm not holding my breath.

I like this better than drafting Ngata if I am a Bills fan, which thankfully I am not. I don't know why, but Ngata seems like he is going to bust out on the pro level for some reason. I could be way wrong, but I just get that feeling.

I agree dude. I'm terrified of taking a DT that high.
