NEW YORK (Ticker) - Buffalo Sabres right wing Ales Kotalik, who led all first-year players in goals and points, on Friday was named NHL Rookie of the Month for January.
Kotalik had seven goals and 11 assists to help the Sabres post an impressive 7-2-2-2 record this month.
The 24-year-old native of the Czech Republic began the month with a five-game points streak, the longest by a rookie this season, and had multiple goals in three straight games at one point.
Buffalo goaltender Ryan Miller, Phoenix left wing Ramz Abid, Columbus left wing Rick Nash and New York Rangers center Jamie Lundmark also were considered for the award.
