Bears | Team scheduled to meet with Archuleta
Sat, 11 Mar 2006 13:25:16 -0800
Adam Schefter, of the NFL Network, reports the Chicago Bears are scheduled to meet with free agent S Adam Archuleta (Rams) Monday, March 13.
Given that McCree is gone, I'd like to have Arch in Buffalo.. BUt I really have a feeling that with a deep safety pool this is going to be a position taken care of in the draft either with Huff in round one or Bullocks in round two.. Plus a few safeties might slide down into the second round (Bing, Watkins)

Re: we will sign archuletta.
There are several issues to consider if Bills want Archuleta:
1) Is he a player on the rise?
2) Does he represent an unquestionable upgrade over Lawyer Milloy?
3) Does he represent a speedy and punishment kind of threat if you compare him to Huff?
4) Aren't Bills overpaying on secondary?

Re: we will sign archuletta.
Archuleta is not a coverage Safety. He is an in the box tackling safety. If we are running a Cover 2, then we need versatile safeties who are fast, can cover well, and tackle. Chris Hope would be a better fit. He had 96 tackles and 3 ints from the FS spot last year, which means he can cover and tackle.
Here are the FA write ups from ESPN on both players:
Chris Hope:
Good range, was asked to cover a lot of ground when Pittsburgh played Cover 3 in most long-yardage passing situations and is a sure tackler. Teams are more split on him, though, and Pittsburgh hasn't tried very hard to retain him.
Adam Archuleta:
Big hitter who has averaged 77.4 tackles for his career, but will whiff on some tackles and too often takes bad angles. Has five times as many sacks as interceptions (15-3) and has to play in a scheme that gets him close to the line of scrimmage to be most effective.
