The Sabres could easily be lost for good.
Apparantly Mark, who counted on his political connections, can't pull the the deal off without state aid.
Pataki isn't going to give. He can't cut school aid etc, and save face while giving 23 or so million to Mark.
If you review the deal, Hamister gives 23 million to Adelphia in one hand under the guise of payment for the Sabres, then asks for 23 million in state aid under the guise of asking for a parking ramp and arena improvements, which he claims technically has nothing to do with purchasing the club.
This money is going from one hand to another. If Hamister didn't give the 23 million to Adelphia, he could make the arena improvements himself in George's view.
There will be no state aid.
Neither Pataki, Hamister, Golisano, or anyone else in their right mind is going to pay a bankrupt Adelphia, who btw has a stake in the Sabres via a TV contract, and who moved their headquarters to another state, and who is going under for billions, 23 million dollars.
Once again, Adelphia walks all over Buffalo. They will take your team, and once you all cancel them, which will be too late, someone else will step in and you'll be paying the same money you are now.
If you all ever wanted to send a message to Adelphia, now is the time. It may be too late at that.
