& also one of the leading candidates for the Calder Cup, NHL's rookie of the year. Before I moved to North Bay, I lived in London, Ont. and was a regular at London Knights (OHL) games & I remember seeing Rick's first OHL game and probably a half dozen Knights games that year. He was a 16 yr old, pudgy kid, definately not the prototypical physical hockey specimen, but man the kid could score. As a rookie, he was a standout on a really, really bad Knights team, so I knew he would be a special player.
He was drafted first overall in the NHL draft last year & looks to be a standout rookie on a really, really bad Blue Jackets team & i believe he leads all NHL rookies in scoring this year.
