Broncos | Team acquires No. 15 overall pick in Abraham trade
Tue, 21 Mar 2006 15:58:39 -0800
<A href="http://www.kffl.com/link/14">Jay Glazer, of FOXSports.com (http://www.kffl.com/link/189), reports the New York Jets (http://www.kffl.com/team/27/nfl) have traded DE John Abraham (http://www.kffl.com/player/1322/nfl) to the Atlanta Falcons (http://www.kffl.com/team/7/nfl) as part of a three-way trade between the Jets, Falcons (http://www.kffl.com/team/7/nfl) and the Denver Broncos (http://www.kffl.com/team/15/nfl). If the trade is approved, then the Falcons (http://www.kffl.com/team/7/nfl) will have traded their first-round pick, No. 15 overall, to Denver, who in turn will trade their first-round pick, No. 29 overall, and two additional picks to Atlanta. Atlanta then sends the 29th pick to the Jets (http://www.kffl.com/team/27/nfl) for Abraham. The Jets (http://www.kffl.com/team/27/nfl) would receive a draft pick two slots higher in the first round than the Seattle Seahawks (http://www.kffl.com/team/33/nfl) were able to offer.

Basically..

Jets now have two first rounders, 4 and 29.
Atlanta has no first rounder but now has John Abraham & two later picks.
Denver now owns the 15th and 22nd picks. (interesting)

Wow that can help the Jets get their team back in order. It's probably a safe bet that they'll have a new QB, and Pennington will have to get used to the clipboard, unless he's had a miracle turnaround with his shoulder.

Either that or they can pick up a pair of great DL in the first round o fthe draft and start building a front line in front of vilma

Are the Jets positioning themselves to go after Houston's #1 and Bush??

Do the Jets even have money to be grabbing 1st rounders?

Jetting rid of Abraham will free up some coin.

i would take lendel white over reggie bush because lendel white will make an ok team great but bush is gonna be like barry sanders a great player on a bad team not making them better

Looks like Denver made out by doing absolutley nothing to move to the 15th pick from the 29th for a few middle rounders!! All I have to say to this trade is wow...

I dont see many three ways period

Bills-Rams-Colts, Dickerson to the Colts, Cornelius Bennett to the Bills. One of Polians greatest moves. The beginning of Bills greatness!!!

I think we are about $22 million under the cap with Abe going to Atlanta!!

But wasn't Denver willing to trade this year's picks for 2007 picks to avoid getting over the cap? And now they get a higher pick, which inmediately means more money? I don't get it, unless thay are planning to make some more trades...

Anyways, anyone here thinks that the Jets did not get too much for a proven 27 years old All-Pro DE? I know a first rounder is very important, but I think the 29th pick is not enough for Abraham, that they could have gotten something more, like a 2nd or 3rd rounder.

That's why I think that the Falcons got the edge on that trade by netting Abraham (who I truly like) and two more picks w/o having to part ways with Schaub or making a straight deal Abraham for the 15th pick.

But I truly think that who really WON is Denver, who has taken advantage of Abraham not willing to go to Seattle and the Falcons not willing to give their 15th straight. Another nice move by the Broncos, who now have so many options that is starting to be disgusting...

Yeah, Abraham was a franchize designee so his compensation under that designation was 100% salary. Every penny disappears from the Jets payroll when figuring the cap.
