If the Bears are sold on Palmer (I think they are), they are going to have to move up to #1 to get him.

If they can't get Palmer, they may wait to see if Suggs is there at their pick at 4. If Suggs is gone, I don't see them taking Leftwich. I think they will trade down to 10 or so and take the best OT.

I sure hope the bears trade up, i am so sick of the bengles wasting talent at QB. They need to build a team first, then put a qb into it.

Dozerdog

Who in their right mind would give a second round pick - straight up mind you- for Emmit Smith? He's used up and would probbably retire outright if sent anywhere outside of 2-3 contenders. And even then, he would only be used as a specialist- he won't pound the rock 25 times a game for you.

dman4
02-04-2003, 08:20 AM
Why would u give a 2nd round pick for Emmitt when if... Dallas cuts him u could get him for free... and I picked Haggan because GB needs LB's desperately and... Haggan plays multiple LB positions. Maybe I could have got him in 2nd round... but that is why it is a Mock draft... Everyone's thinking is different.

An interesting note...

Im in a few different mocks. In each one I have traded down and picked up an extra second pick. It is easy to see how a team like the Texans could improve rapidly with a few key players. Last year 3 of our 5 starting linemen did not play almost the entire season due to injury. Needless to say our depth was laughable.

Adding Jordan Gross, and getting back a healthy line (not counting on Bosselli - if he plays great, if not we never had him in the lineup anyway) with a back like Onterrio Smith or Musa Smith, or Lee Suggs to run behind as a 2nd round pick starts to look pretty interesting.

FWIW: I have THREE picks in the third round!!! This gives me 6 picks in the first 3 rounds. *nice*

We have 14 choices in the draft this year overall.

Michael82

That's not the point Dozer...the point of this mock draft is what you would do if you are the owner of that team. That's why I was going to put Emmitt on the block, even though most teams know he would either be kept or cut. Also, thats why a 3rd round is reasonable for Mark Brunell because it is what the owner thinks is reasonable. I'm trying to figure out a trade to bring a Quarterback to Dallas...if anyone is willing to trade...send me an offer for either a player or my 3rd rounder. :D

The Jags are thrilled to pick up a great QB prospect in the 2nd, and still be able to trade away an aging and injury prone ex-star for a 3rd round pick. We can also use the salary cap space.

We'll bring a cheap veteran in to help with Dave till he's ready to take over. We felt now is the best time to get rid of Mark while we can still get something for him. The trade works out good for both us and the Cowboys.

I like doing mock drafts because I consider it practice for fantasy football. I get to know guys who otherwise I wouldn't pay attention to. Last year I had the Saints, and we did 7 rounds. I called 3 of the guys they took, although not in the same order they took them. I don't expect the same luck this year, but whoever had the Lions might be dead on.

Cards: T. Jones is not the answer and D. Boston/M. Jenkins are FA...
Giants: R. Dayne wants out, and you need someone beside A. Toomer...
Titans: Stewart would be nice insurance for E. George and K. Dyson is a FA...
Eagles:D. Staley (cap cut) and McNabb needs another weapon at WR...

I am only allowing 1 of the 2 players (Stewart or Az Hakim). Ax Hakim is a stretch- they signed him to a big contract last season and I doubt they would take the cap hit eating that bonus.

It would border on the ridiculous of the Liond dumped 2 of their top 4 weapons and eat all that cap hit for a measly 3rd rd pick.

let's keep this mildly realistic.

Griese has been a starter and can win. We don't know what Favre's plans are so... Griese is not a bad pickup. I would rather have Griese than Plummer. With Griese he knows the NFL and he can be ready to play.. with a rookie it takes a few years to develop. With The Packers we don't know how many years Favre has left... Plus I got Tim Brown for Favre to throw to.

Earthquake Enyart
02-05-2003, 08:49 AM

dman4

Earthquake,
I have a lot of options with the defense... We have a lot of backups who have experience now. First off GB will cut Tyrone Williams to save 7 million and try to sign at cheaper price. Our DL has JJ coming back... Kampmann, Warren and walker have experience and I just drafted a DT in Johnson. At CB I do have a problem there but it is worth it... You need a good backup b/c you never know when QB will get hurt. We don't know if Favre will play 1 more year or 5... Have to be prepared. Chicago is learning now how important QB is. Plus I added Tim Brown at WR. My WR are very good now. Brown, Driver, Glenn, Ferguson and Walker. Plus I have a good TE and RB. Our Defense is much better than some teams in the NFL. Maybe I did waste some $$ but an NFL team always restructures contract to sign players. I think GB will sign Hunt and KGB to contracts and probably get Williams to take a paycut and resign Brian Westbrook. If this is the case then it was all worth it.

venis2k1

All i know is the Broncos are quietly becoming one of the best "D"'s in the league.

Earthquake Enyart
02-05-2003, 09:18 AM
That is a lot of ifs.

I would think that the Pack would draft the QB of the future in the first 3 rounds (Simms, Grossman, even Dorsey) and save their money to keep their defensive players.

I can understand picking up Brown, but that's because I'm not sold on Glenn, Ferguson or Walker, who all vanished at the end of the season.

And I agree. The Bears are screwed. They thought at the end of last year to spend all their money to keep their defense together (all except Colvin) and that they could get by with Miller and Chandler. And Henry Burris would be the QB of the future. Too bad he blows. That's why I felt they had to trade up to make sure they get Palmer. Detroit and Houston will trade down if Cincy doesn't take Palmer.

dman4
02-05-2003, 09:24 AM
I am not sure Palmer is the answer for them either. I think Palmer is good but... not the #1 pick. I understand your thinking though. As far as "IFs" this is why we are FANS and they are the GM's. Not everyone has the right answer.

Earthquake Enyart
02-05-2003, 09:29 AM
They have the rebuilt stadium with PSL's to sell. They need to hit a HR.

All that being said, I can also see them sitting at #4 and taking Suggs.

I think that the Texans will take Suggs.

I think the Texans will end up trading down. But if they stay at #3 I agree, they probably will take Suggs.

I'm pretty happy with my picks. I think both of them could have gone higher than where I got 'em.

I'm happy with my picks too. I just wish I would've waited till the 3rd to pick a QB. I could've gotten Boller or Simms, and possibly even Ragone. Who would've thunk?

It was either Ragone, Redding, or DeWayne White. I still got Brayton and Pace, so I'm happy about what I got. Brunell's contract was worth way more then he is capable of at this time. I chose to start over new right now. That's the way I think they should do it at least.

Don't know if Eric Manning will have an impact, but he was probably the best DT left when the Bills made their pick.

I was considering... if Mcgahee was there taking him in late 3rd round with one of my 2 picks. Now I don't need to worry about that. You get a Top 5 pick(if not for the injury) in the 3rd round. U had nothing to lose.

Hey, I had trouble logging on earlier. I sent LOG a bogus pick.

Could you guys switch my pick to Bennie Joppru??????????????

The Houston Texans select:

<center>http://www.aokdraft.com/joppru.bmp
Bennie Joppru.
Height: 6-5
Weight: 245 lbs.
Bennie Joppru has emerged as one of the Big Ten's best tight ends in 2002. He possesses soft hands and extends to the ball rather than allowing it to get into his body. For a tight end, Joppru displays excellent agility after the catch and can be a dangerous player with the ball in his hands. Too many tight ends are satisfied with just catching the ball and going down, but he always looks to pick up extra yardage.

Thanks!!

I had a great draft then. The Texans have a young defense, and it was the strength of the team last year. The offense was expansion thin, and horrific. Todays draft would make this fan happy.

1) Jordan Gross T
2) Onterrio Smith RB
2b) Brandon Lloyd WR
3) Antwan Peek OLB
3b) Chris Brown RB
3c) Bennie Jappru TE

Jordan Gross shores up a tackle spot and RT Ryan Young's injuries have healed. This allows Chester Pitts to move in to Guard where he was projected to play to begin with, instead of LT.

The Texans need skill players to help David Carr. Adding A new stable of running backs in Onterrio Smith and Chris Brown will be an immediate and obvious upgrade. Brandon Lloyd, and Bennie Jappru should help David Carr find some new targets down field.

Antwan Peek is a hybrid player that will play the rush end in the 3-4. He has great size and speed.

I am extremly happy with this draft. ;)

The Real Texans have 14 picks. I can't wait till the draft.

I think your draft was avg to good at best.

You did get a good tackle... I'll definitely give you that.

However, why did you need 2 RBs when you already have Jonathan Wells? Give up on him already? Ok, I can live with that if you did, but why 2. I don't see the need. 1 may start, and that makes the other a wasted pick. Im not arguing with the value of the picks, just the need.

Lloyd was a good pickup at receiver. I think he may be a little overrated, but in round 2 he's a good pickup.

At the TE position, you could have had Dallas Clark...

I guess a guy named "Dallas" playing for Houston would not go over to well...:D

I'm pleased with my picks. If I was Jerry Jones...I would grab Suggs immediately. He will make an instant impact at DE. Also, the fact that Larry Johnson fell to me in the 2nd round was pretty cool, too! They do need another RB to learn the ropes and I am not confident in Troy Hambrick to be the featured RB. I also feel that Quincy Carter was one of their worst pickups in a while and Chad Hutchinson is nothing more than a good backup. If they could get Mark Brunell with their 3rd rounder...I'd jump at it immediately!

No way Suggs falls to the Cowboys. He's a top 4 pick.

The Texans have 14 picks. Did you even see our offense last year? No skill position players. There is plenty of picks left to get more core players. They need the best skill guys on the board. Every single one of the players I picked will go on the first day. I can assure you. Bennie Japaru can catch the ball. More than I can say for anyone else on the Texans roster.

You may be the only guy on the planet high on Jonathin Wells. Wells will not start in this league. Good thing it was an expansion season. He is too slow, not elusive, can't catch, and is not a good blocker. Other than that, he is dynamite. James Allen is not a starter either. He will not be here next year.

You don't even mention Antwan Peek. He will be a force in the NFL.
