Interesting Article on Free Agency So Far

This article, "Panthers, Browns Win Big In Free Agency", begins with two excellent paragraphs that all Bills fans should keep in mind at this time of year...

"Smart general managers around the NFL will tell you constantly that the Super Bowl is not won in the first week of free agency, and that’s definitely sound logic.

In truth, the Super Bowl is won in April, when teams concentrate on the draft and fill out their rosters with good players at lower prices. Beyond that, the best values in free agency are usually found later in the process."

and ends with a surprising commentary about what Miami has been doing that may hurt them in free agency in coming years...

"Several agents of top free agents expressed mild irritation with the Dolphins for bringing in their players early in free-agent process but not making offers. The normal protocol is if a team is going to as a free agent to come in right away, it means there is serious business. The Dolphins didn’t do that and some agents said privately they will think twice before sending a top player to Miami early in the process next year."

with some interesting tidbits, particularly from Phil Simms, in-between:

Those who do not learn from the past are doomed to repeat it. And, thus it was that they surrendered their freedom; not with a bang, but without even a whimper.

Great read there, and a lot of it is true.. But they can say whatever they want.. If they end up with Culpepper AND Arrington that's one hell of a sucessful offseason.

But since Nick Saban is god, these agents are all going to hell.

That further backs what Pat Kirwan said about New England on Friday. They NEVER get all hot and heavy during the first couple of weeks of FA. They let all the name players with high price tags go. Then pickup bargain FA's and Draft well.

Seems Marv learned well in his time off.

FOr the LOVE OF GOD, please stop comparing the Buffalo Bills to the New England Patriots. With the exception of them being the same division, we have absolutely NOTHING in common with them.

when we have 1/8 the talent they do, then I'm all for bargain FA's and drafting well to compete with them.

well if Miami pays for the trip, then gee must be tough getting a free trip to Miami, I guess that's why the irritation is "mild" IMO, lol. I know that I would take a free trip instead of being here in IA.

ROFL... Get back to me next year when Miami has a glaring need at S, and Ed Reed's agent is saying don't go into Miami. Yeah, like Ed Reed won't explore the option of making money and living on South Beach.

                Dude, relax.

I think he is only trying to say that people are taking notes as to how they have done it and trying to use some of the same logic that has worked for them. Saying someone is taking a page out of their book doesn't mean to say we are just like them.

This is BS. No agent worth his salt is going to potentially deny his client a shot at a job, whether it be in Miami or Green Bay and in between. If they did, the NFLPA, and the NFL itself would be all over said agent and probably have them suspended.

If an agent is offended by posturing, perhaps they need to go to the store, buy a mirror, and look in it. All agents inflate their clients worth and look for the best deal, why shouldn't teams do the same? I don't buy it.
