Welcome to the 2003 Billszone mock draft!

Each team will be assigned a specific time to draft- that way you can choose a team around your posting schedule. (so don't sign up for a team if you arent available at that time)

The Draft will run 1 round each day, with each team getting half an hour to pick. Arrangements can be made with our moderators to submit your pick if you aren't sure you can make the time posted.

If someone no shows, when their time slot is up the moderator in charge of the draft will use a composit of internet mock drafts and teem needs to make the choice for you.

All trades must be approved by a moderator.

Also, if you want to make it a 3 round mock instead of a 2 round mock- post your preference with your pick. I will post the draft order for the 3rd round if the majority want to go the extra day!

Please keep this thread clear - for picks and moderators of the draft only. A second "Mock the Mock draft" thread will be set up to handle hecklers, trade talk, ect....

BledsoetoReedfor6 is not on the boards and his time has expired.

The Mock drafts are pretty much in consensus. They all for the most part have Arizona selecting Terrance Newman or Suggs, and have Dallas taking Newman or Suggs as well. Since Suggs is gone, Newman it is!

Arizona Cardinals: Terrance Newman CB Kansas St. (49ers, Rams and Seahawks all have good passing games which means that if you are serious about contending in this division you better have good cover corners.)

With the 8th pick in the 2003 NFL Draft, the Jacksonville Jaguars select Andre Johnson, WR, Miami

The Jaguars wanted Terrell Suggs since there is so much depth at WR, but he didn't last to our #8 pick. We need picks so we wern't interested in trading up to get him. If Andre wouldn't have been available at #8 we would've entertained trade offers for the pick and select Haynes or McDougal later on in the 1st round.

We are very happy to have Andre on our side. We needed another threat to take heat off of Jimmy Smith, and Andre is the only WR we would've considered taking in the 1st round to get the job done. We feel he will be a force on our team for years to come.

Expansionblues left me some picks because he was not going to make it at this time. Unfortunatly, the picks he left are all gone.

The Mock Drafts identify OT & DT as the two glaring spots, though Houston also needs offensive weapons to compliment Carr.

One site AOK Draft (http://www.aokdraft.com/mock2003.html) pulled the same draft day trade with Caroina for the #3 and Leftwich.

So, I'll go with who they picked in this spot.

12. St. Louis Rams select-OT Kwame Harris- Stanford

Offensive line was a sieve most of last year and could lose depth via free agency. Harris would provide a bookend on the right side with Orlando Pace, almost a lock to return at left offensive tackle. Playmaking linebacker is also a consideration because Jamie Duncan and Robert Thomas were disappointing in trying to fill London Fletcher's void.

On all the mock drafts, with the exception of the top 2-3 picks, it is rare to see everyone have a consensus on a playerdrafted in the mid- later part of the round. Not here. 2/3rds of the mocks out there seem to have the same need filled for the KC Cheifs.

Smith is possibly the fastest of the top running back prospects that could enter the 2003 draft. He looks even faster than he is because he swivels on shifty hips. With very good balance and terrific field vision, Smith can cut and burn any defender on the field, scoring from anywhere he wants. Smith is also adept at catching the ball, and his blocking skills are improving. He's even tossed a touchdown pass and returned some kickoffs.

"Redding being there just absolutely shocked us. Cory has great size and speed, and was an impact player on a solid Texas defense. With the return of Marcus Jones and our additions, we should be much improved. So far, the changes we have made are to release Chris Watson, Jay Riemersma, and Billy Jenkins, and kept Eddie Robinson as he restructured to play in a backup role. In Free Agency, Takeo Spikes was tagged unfortunately, so we picked up Gilbert Brown to be a big run stuffer, Mike Maslowski and Roosevelt Colvin to flank London Fletcher, and unfortunately Peerless Price took the money and ran to Atlanta, so we picked up Kevin Dyson at a good price to challenge Josh Reed, so all in all, we like our team and draft so far for 2003."

With the additions of some much needed offensive weapons in Jason Witten and Az Hakim, it was time to pick up some defense. Specifically DE, with the possibility of Hugh Douglas not resigning.

With the 2nd pick of the 3rd round (66th overall), the Detroit Lions are very proud to select, from Virginia University, OLB, Angelo Crowell!

Lions are happy to add one of the finest talents available at the linebacker position (he's also the younger brother of Germaine!).
Looked better than expected at the Senior Bowl when he was one of the best linebackers on the field in all drills.

The Chicago Bears select...

Todd Johnson S Florida

Enough of the PR BS.

There was a lot of  at Halas Hall when Peak was snatched from right under their noses. The Bears were hoping to get as lucky as they were in round 2, and have a DL / LB fall into their laps but no one here really excited them. Johnson is good value at this point, and the Bears could use a safety to go along with Mike Brown, but they have more glaring needs at LB to replace Colvin and are generally weak on the front 4.

The Texans now have a new set of skill players to go with Quarterback David Carr. Brandon Lloyd, and Jabbar Gaffney, as WR's, and now a pair of quality backs in Onterrio Smith and Chris Brown to run behind newly accuired Jordan Gross. Watch out NFL. Here come the Texans.

Hey, I had trouble logging on earlier. I sent LOG a bogus pick.

Could you guys switch my pick to Bennie Joppru??????????????

http://images.nfl.com/images/helmets2002/HOU.gif

The Houston Texans select:

http://www.aokdraft.com/joppru.bmp
Bennie Joppru.
Height: 6-5
Weight: 245 lbs.
Bennie Joppru has emerged as one of the Big Ten's best tight ends in 2002. He possesses soft hands and extends to the ball rather than allowing it to get into his body. For a tight end, Joppru displays excellent agility after the catch and can be a dangerous player with the ball in his hands. Too many tight ends are satisfied with just catching the ball and going down, but he always looks to pick up extra yardage.

With the first pick of the 4th rd, the BillsZone select

Terry Tate- office linebacker

Types- 22 words a minute
Will push Mike32282, Lordo, and NBF - the slackers!

DRAFT EVALUATION: Terry Tate, Office Linebacker
Tate shows quickness and excellent closing speed -- when he arrives on the scene he delivers quite a wallop. He's a fiery competitor with a mean streak, displaying a high intensity level throughout the entire commercial. He should be effective at getting to the quarterback, as evidenced by his ability to work through the cubicle double-team.

Listed at 6-foot-7 and 300-plus pounds, he has outstanding size for a linebacker. He could project to a defensive end in the NFL. But as an NFL rookie, he'll need to watch the trash-talking. He has a Warren Sapp-like mouth that could rile veterans.

He's shown good speed indoors in an office setting, but his final draft grade will be dependent on his time in the 40-yard dash during individual workouts.

Draft Outlook: If he displays anything near the 4.23 40-yard time he says he delivered in his prime, he'll be a sure-fire first-round pick. If not, he'll probably slide into the second round.
