BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) -- Lindy Ruff never anticipated his Buffalo Sabres (http://sports.yahoo.com/nhl/teams/buf/) would lose six straight this season.

Now that they have, the Sabres coach is taking a philosophical approach, believing the 0-5-1 slump might be beneficial for a young team that could use a taste of adversity heading into the final three weeks of the NHL season.

"There's a room in there where the guys are upset, they're not happy," Ruff said, pointing to the Sabres' locker room following practice Tuesday. "And that just tells you that this might be the best thing for the team. We may, in the long run, get a lot more out of this stretch than you can imagine.

"And it may be the best thing going into the playoffs," he said.
