A stadium out side of erie county and buffalo makes no sense...

With the recent talk of the bills moving out of buffalo to LA . Articles have be written suggesting the bills build a new stadium out side of buffalo to bring in more fans. This my friends makes no sense at all. First let me say this ...It was a mistake to build the stadium in orchard park in the first place...

History has shown that this area has made many mistakes when it comes to building major projects....UB Amherst...etc....Now talk of a stadium in Genesee County for the bills fans in Rochester .. etc...ah no !!! I lived in rochester for five years and ran into more Fish,Packer and Browns fans than Bills fans...

Their is only one place to put a new stadium when it is built and that is downtown Buffalo. The recent activity downtown has shown me that Buffalo has turned the corner and the city is making a slow recovery. New Developement and the work on the erie canal project shows me that the city is starting to bounce back.

Sure it will cost the taxpayers some money .. and many won't want to spend it ...

We really have two choices ...Go all out to keep the bills and draw more events to the city say a regional final in NCAA basketball and maybe a final four ..By building a indoor stadium or let the course be run and possibly lose the team to an area that has never supported football.

When you think abou the cities that could lose their teams it boils down to Buffalo,New Orleans and Minnesota.... But that has changed with the vikings set to build a new sports complex. http://www.vikings.com/stadiumvision.html

San diego was also mentioned but they are discussing a new staduim project. http://www.chargers.com/futurestadium/

So where else can the NFL go.... ? It has to be Buffalo or New Orleans All the rest of the teams are on solid ground with new stadiums or solid fan bases.

It really simple when you think about...It has to be New Orleans... As bad as the WNY economy is .. It's a lot better than The big easy .. First of all the area lost half of it's population due to Hurricane Katrina.. Most of the residents are probably not returning...

Over 50 percent of the white collars jobs have still not returned....Many area schools and hospitals are still not opened. Area business are closed because the people have not returned. I know the NFL wants to do the right thing by trying to bring the saints back . It's just not going to be easy... IT'S A SHAME THAT THE NFL wants reward a city that just doen't support football with a team . While areas that love their teams may get it yanked away..

This is all premature but if we want to keep the bills in buffalo we need to get active. Write The Your State politicans and county legislators and ask them to get busy with a study to keep the bills in bufflao with a new staduim plan by 2011.

It's just five years away but a new lease should be worked out before then . One that is a lot tougher to get out of ..Then maybe a new plan to have a new staduim by 2015.. The ralph is 33 years old...It's time to get busy with plans with a new one...If not so be it .. I would be ok .. just going to Bass pro every sunday in the fall.. Or maybe i could hit the New erie canal musuem...Or maybe the casino to watch the other teams play...HMM.. just think how bad that would be ...

A new stadium in downtown Buffalo just might be what the city needs to spark a turnaround..

yeah, but there are tons of crybabies here who don't want to deal with added 5 minute drive to downtown

i think a downtown stadium on the waterfront, next to bass pro, HSBC arena, and dunn tire park would spark a boom in new businesses. it has worked in Baltimore and other cities, I don't see why it wouldn't work in a town with nothing left but it's sports teams.

Yea, the city that can't afford to buy toilet paper for the municipal buildings downtown should finance a new stadium for the incoming billionaire owner.

        Right.

i agree with you Bmax, however ive lived in Rochester all my life and youre blind if you dont think theres that many Bills fans there. Id say its 80-90% Bills fans. In fact, I dont know many people who arent Bills fans. There was a strong Browns following in the area before the Bills were in Buffalo so thats why thats like it is, and the Dolphins fans are just a phenomenom that happens in any rival city. Some fans are just anti local team, so they pick the rival. Thats why theres a lot of Bills fans in Miami.

If there is not a ton of Bills fans in Rochester then why did they move the training camp there and have such a large crowds there? The fact is the Bills can not survive with just the Buffalo fan base. If Buffalo could survive on its own then a downtown stadium on the waterfront (not factoring the cost) would be a great idea. However reality is the Bills need fans from Buffalo, Canada, Rochester and Syracuse to survive. There is a reason Buffalo does not host prime time games on a work/school night. Fans from far away don't want to get home at 2-3 in the morning and go to work the next day. As a result of the lack of regional support for those games they don't sell out.

Good post. Don't forget of the huge group of Bills fans that travels to Buffalo from Rochester for the home games. I always see tons on the Thruway on my way. Plus, don't forget of all the people who come out to see the Buffalo Bills practice at St John Fisher. It's always busy, especially the night sessions.

I don't think the goal here is to resurect Buffalo's economy, it is to build a stadium that is in a central location giving the fans in Eastern counties better access to the games. And don't sit here and say that Rochester isn't packed with Bills fans, cuz that's just rediculous. That place might have more Bills fans than Buffalo itself.

Don't be stupid mike the best spot(and where they will build) is downtown Buffalo. It would be closer for both Rochester and Toronto.

Probably the most ridiculous statement in the history of this board!!! At least 99% of Buffalonians are Bills fans and there are more people in Buffalo.

Remember that Baltimore went to a larger "Baltimore County" government too. A smaller version of what L.A. did. Buffalo and Erie County would be wise to go that route, but you'll see backlash from a lot of suburbia because they don't want their taxes going to help city programs. It's ridiculous, but it's the truth.
