Nate Clements was a no-show when the Buffalo Bills opened a voluntary minicamp Friday because he failed to accept a one-year contract as the team's franchise player.New coach Dick Jauron said it was important for the star cornerback to attend camp to learn the new defensive system Jauron and coordinator Perry Fewell are implementing. more (http://www.mercurynews.com/mld/mercurynews/sports/14291454.htm)

Don't read too much into this.....yet.
It's voluntary, meaning if you don't want to come you don't have.

Plus, he's not under contract, right? Franchising him means we retain his rights, but he still has to sign a contract, I believe.

That as well Phil.

That does not mean he can not attend and not do work. Would be smarter thing to do even if he does want to go to another team but "Playmaker" is not known for his brains.

I dont care if its the FIRST day of Mini-camp, WHY is Kelly Holcomb with the first team??

Is Jauron that nutty already?? Did someone NOT give him the memo we are signing young players and rebuilding.. Put that Journeyman BUM on the sidelines with a clipboard and tell him to STFU. I dont care if we go 0-16 with JP or Nall, I will lose my mind if Kelly Holcomb starts on this kind of football team.

I think you're looking into it WAY too much. Just because he was with the first team today doesnt mean he is the starter as of right now. you never know tomorrow JP could be then Sunday Nall

I have a sinking feeling we are headed towards the most frustrating few months in Buffalo Bills history..

Without jumping to a conclusion, where is Willis?

Actually, Clements was really early to Bills minicamp. About one year early as he is already in Los Angeles. :snicker:

No question if I'm Marv I make a few calls. If a team like SD or KC that might think they're a CB away from contending is willing to send us their #1, I'd have to do it right now. You have a new HC and a team trying to rebuild. Clement could become an unnecessary distraction. Besides we could take a guy like Marcus McNeill there which could be a bigger move than having Clement.

I think there is too much depth at corner for anyone to give a first for him

We would really need 2 picks to make it work as we would just use the pick on a cb...and we gain nothing. correct me if I am wrong ..but I thing franchiese player garner 2 picks no?

Yes.. if they wanted to sign him without having to trade with us, if we dont want to trade him.

If someone signed your franchise player you'd get two firsts. But that's not going to happen. We're not going to get more than a first for him IMO. What we gain is five years from a young player at reasonable money and 7m in cap room. Cap room's not an issue now but we will try to minimize the major holes this draft and then next offseason fill out the roster aggressively with FA's and the draft.

As long as he isn't out somewhere in the Florida ghetto (or any ghetto for that matter) sucking on glass pipe, and as long is here when the real action begins, I could care less.
