    Philly Looking To Move Up

Eagles | Team trying to trade up in the NFL Draft?
    Sat, 8 Apr 2006 13:39:08 -0700
Mark Eckel, writing for the Sporting News, reports the Philadelphia Eagles appear to be leaning to trading up in the NFL Draft. They currently sit in the No. 14 position. Their target appears to be Oregon DT Haloti Ngata. The 6-4, 340-pound Ngata would give the team a run-stuffing presence in the middle of the defensive line and could be a perfect complement to DT Mike Patterson.

If your looking at Buffalo trading down with Philly, and go 100% by the Draft Value Chart "bible"..

THen Philly would give us their first round (14), second round (45) and 4th ruonder in exchange for Buffalo's 1st (8) and 2nd third rounder (73).

Oh, like we have no use for a run-stuffing DT?

Come on Miyagi- keep up. Haven't you been reading the board lately? In February Ngata was definitely, without a doubt, the Bills' choice. Now-

Ngata's a "two gap DT who doesn't fit the cover-2"
Ngata is undersized and gets pushed around
Ngata's draft stock is slipping (even though neither he nor any other draft prospect have played a single game of football since the first week in January).

The fact that he's the best player available in the Bills' biggest position of need (arguably) is COMPLETELY irrelevant.

Funny I have yet to hear anyone from the Bills say Ngata can't be a 1 gap guy.

Re: Philly Looking To Move Up

Just to revisit Ngata from a hopefully objective standpoint, my understanding is that Buffalo, to run a Tampa or Chicago style cover 2 defense needs a 3 technique defensive tackle and a zero technique defensive tackle. The 3 technique guy has to be a smallish, quick, penetrating type defensive tackle. This is the role Buffalo had in mind when they signed Larry Tripplett, 6'2" and 295 lbs. The 0 technique DT lines up on the nose like a nose tackle. He also should be pretty athletic since he also must sometimes try to penetrate a gap to cause disruption in the backfield, but since he also must sometimes try to collapse the pocket by pushing the center backwards or hold position on running plays he really needs to be bigger and stronger than the 3 position DT. Ngata is athletic enough as well as being strong enough to handle the 0 technique tackle position very well. Bunkley is probably stronger than Tim Anderson, the guy the Bills have penciled in at that spot right now, and though he's not as big and strong as Ngata, probably has enough strength to do well as a 0 position DT too. He would probably be more disruptive and a better pass rusher, Ngata would be better at collapsing the pocket and defending against the run, but either one would work. It would mostly depend on the preferences of Perry Fewell.

Then again, maybe the Bills will go with Vince Young.
I've made up my mind. Don't confuse me with the facts.

I'm the most reasonable poster here. If you don't agree, I'll be forced to have a hissy fit.

What if we do that trade do you think we can get winston justice in the 1st at 14 then maybe gabe watson or another DT with one second rounder and one of the guards with the other second rounder?

I personally hope they pass on every top talent in the draft and instead stockpile 700 mid round picks they will never put to decent use.

                            pull the trigger

From what I am hearing about teams willing to move up, I am thinking there is an 80% chance the Bills will trade out of #8 for extra picks

Denver and Philly are both targeting players that should be available at #8 but might not make it any further. The #8 picks gives teams value who trade up, anything in the top 5 costs teams too much in trade value and player costs.

                            We're trading down !!!!
