Chris Brown, of <A href="http://www.kffl.com/link/124">BuffaloBills.com, reports Buffalo Bills (http://www.kffl.com/team/9/nfl) players engaged in two fights at minicamp Saturday, April 8. S Matt Bowen (http://www.kffl.com/player/772/nfl) and RB Lionel Gates (http://www.kffl.com/player/11693/nfl) got into it. Bowen facemasked Gates to the ground, but Gates appeared to shove Bowen's facemask up into his chin and nicked him. Three other players were needed to separate them. Meanwhile TE Robert Royal (http://www.kffl.com/player/1946/nfl) and DL Chris Kelsay (http://www.kffl.com/player/5948/nfl) got into a shoving match. After practice was over, head coach Dick Jauron (http://www.kffl.com/player/1960/nfl) spoke to the team and stated the need to discipline themselves. He said if something gets heated they have to have the discipline to walk away because they need everybody on this roster healthy, and beating each other up in the spring is not an option.

I'd have zero respect for the Dolphin players if none of them ever got into a tangle fighing for a job.

What does Saban have them do to each other, play patty-cake or something?

GREAT! We signed two "character" guys in this FA period who have started a fight on the second day of voluntary camp! Fun Times YaY!

two ex-redskins both get in fights on their frst day of mini camp. Coincidence?

Personally, I don't care. It shows they have intensity.

Honestly I dig it...at least it shows there are players that DO care and want to win some ball games.

Whatever the reason for the fights, it is the first time on the field for these guys. It's way too early to jump to conclusions about coaches and their ability to control players. Two of them are brand new to the team. If they're being chippy in preseason games and drawing personal fouls and unsportsmanlike penalties, then the coaching staff needs to be called to account for their discipline. What the staff does now when fights happen will show more about their discipline than the fact that a few fights are happening.

Maybe some Bills fans should go browsing on the official Dolphins' site looking for signs of discension and coaching incompetence. Whaddaya think?

Has there ever been a mini-camp or training where players didn't get into scraps? Ever ??

Exactly...Last year at the first training camp practice Tim Anderson got into a scuffle with Greg Jerman I believe it was, and I saw him give multiple shots to his kidneys. These things happen. At least our players dont cry when the coaches yell at them.

Get used to it. The competition on this team is at an all time high. Every position is up in the air.

Marv really brought in "character guys"... overpaid character backups nonethless. "I suck, couldn't cut it on another team, so I will pick on somebody that shouldn't even be starting here anyways". I'd be more impressed if they actually had the balls to go after somebody with some actual talent.

This is just a preview of things to come.

Team is already falling apart at a voluntary camp... two nobody's starting unnecessary fights to get some spotlight on them because they don't have the skills to speak for themselves.

You mean like Carolina did with Delhome? There are many others that can be named. The FACTS are, we dont' know. Some of these guys can become probowlers. And before you ***** and moan and say no way, Delhome has played in the superbowl and the probowl already after going to Carolina.

who knows what these new guys can do.

so robert royal is the next jake delhomme?

i guess that explains why joe gibbs, one of the worst coaches in nfl history, didn't even see enough talent in him to give him a starting role in a less than average offense last year.

Yeah I can see why being intense and trying to prove yourself in an open competition for every position would be a bad thing. They probably should have set up a debate forum and traded intellectual barbs with one another in timed rounds. That would have been better right? Or perhaps rock paper scissors is more up to your liking? Get a grip...you can be a man of high character and still be full of intensity...this is football and if our guys aren't fired up now that we're in real trouble. Some of you guys are amazing. OMG...a scuffle at mini camp my life is over, the world is coming to an end...its frikken football!!! Anytime you have grown men hitting and throwing each other around a fight is bound to happen.

Nublar's thread is too ridiculous to even comment on.Jan, the only thing more ridiculous is some of the responses to Nublar's post. It was an obvious attempt to get a rise out of people and many fell for it. Others actually agreed with the post. Pitiful!

No coach is 100% right on every player...maybe he just didn't fit the system. Marv cut John Parella after only 1 season yet Parella went on to have a lengthy career in the NFL

I was at the Gators spring practice in Gainseville and the players were fighting all over the place. SO do you think URBAN MEYER has no control over his players!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

right, and it's happened to countless other guys.

look, if i'm wrong on this guy i'll gladly admit to it when he turns into the next jay reimersma... but in all honestly, i can't say i have much confidence in his "abilities", considering they gave him a pretty nice contract based on nothing up to this point in his career and now he wants to start a spat with a guy who's been here, trying to earn a job on the opposite side of the ball.

but comparing him to Jake Delhomme is just assinine.

That wasn't a comparison...it was merely pointing out a fact...that someone else who'd had a less than mediocre career in a previous stop can sometimes go on and be a very good player in this league. I'm not excited by the Royal signing by any means, but I've seen enough in this league to tell me it's beyond stupid to write someone off because of mediocre beginnings.
