What would happen if guys like Jerry Jones, Daniel Snyder, Bob Kraft, and all the other greedy, blood-sucking, self-serving owners of the NFL started their own professional football league from scratch?

See the WFL, USFL, XFL, etc for the answer.

They would actually succeed. They know how to market it. They could compete with the NFL for College players. All a player has to do is NOT declare for the draft I believe. I'm sure this will end up being a court decided issue.

Ice, remember the USFL? Donald Trump knew how to market as did several other USFL owners. They had deep pocketbooks to compete with the NFL with top talent players. However after a while, they couldn't compete because everyone knew "brand" and wanted to watch the NFL. Same thing would eventually happen. USFL, XFL, WFL All three had NFL caliber type players during their existence, all three folded. Why would Jones, Snyder and Kraft be able to change that?

Because the NFL is screwing its self with the CBA. Also it is over saturated. If they didn't go CBA say in 05 and it was uncapped this year with those 3 plus 11 other owners having teams, what would it be like if D'brick, Williams, Hawk, Bush, Lionart, Young etc all NOT Declaring for the draft and wanting to go in that league? Add in some top FA's like Bentley, Sean Alexander, E James etc going that league instead of signing as FA's with the NFL?

It would work this time around. Trump was essentially on his own. You are talking several powerful owners now that know how to market and have the stadiums, marketing, sponsorship etc to make it work.

We've been down that road before, ICE...look up Donald Trump and the New Jersey Generals, or John Bassett and the Memphis Southmen.

See Herschel Walker, Jim Kelly, Steve Young, etc for the USFL.

See Larry Csonka, Jim Kiick, and Paul Warfield for the WFL.

I can tell you what would happen.

It would be called the League of Extrodinary Gentlemen. They would all build new stadiums, sponsored by Microsoft, Google, and the NYSE. All statiums would come with horse racing tracks and brandy bars. Every fan would get a complimentary humidor and designer scarf.

Then in 30 years some younger, wealthier guys who have all of daddy's money will come in and destroy their league, and they will hold press conferences to ***** about their situation and try to get state and local governments on their sides.

The only time this has EVER succeeded was with auto racing and the split from CART (Championship Auto racing Teams) and the creation of the IRL (Indy racing league)- and that took 10 years and the USA's largest attended sports event - TYhe Indy 500 (400,000 in attendance)

Basketball tried and failed (ABA) Hockey failed (WHA) Football failed numerous times (WFL, USFL, XFL)

Heck- the world's best promoter has to be Vince McMahon of the WWF and he failed miserably.

The sad thing is, if things aren't changed, we are headed that way. :ill:
