"It's going to be down to the wire, pardon the pun, because both guys have strengths and weaknesses," Bills defensive coordinator Perry Fewell said after the team wrapped up minicamp Sunday. "Just in this minicamp, we had a chance to evaluate their strengths and we hope to work on some of those weaknesses.

Laywer Milloy thinks Wire is ready but I know Wire will be bashed on the Zone. Hopefully the new backfield coaches can extract the potential out of Wire.

Down to the wire!?!? That's pretty funny. I do hope Coy has what it takes, but I'm not convinced, based on previous performances, that he's the answer.

Defensive coordinator Perry Fewell is a funny guy according to fans I know who have met him elsewhere but is dead serious when it comes to football.

I know it will make shelby all hot and bothered....

We need to use the draft to bulk up depth and for the future at both S spots

Depth being the operative word

It seems the the cover two defense is geared to the areas where Coy Wire has been weakest. I'm always open to a player making a push to start, but Wire's monumental struggles with pass coverage makes it important that he earn his way into the starting llineup with a complete turnaround.

exactly. Wire is a not-as-good Milloy. decent in the box, but weak in coverage. how does that figure into the cover 2?

Typical coach lip-service. Nothing more. I can't see any way possible that Wire beats out Bowen for the SS spot. Bowen is a lot faster, and hits even harder than Wire does. Wire might play better in the box though, so we may see him in there in certain packages. Overall, however, Bowen's 4.4 speed is a great asset in cover-2.

I'd rather see Wire moved to OLB to be honest.

What happened to Perry Fewell saying that Matt Bowen was the starter? I remember reading that once or twice on these boards.

He said ' He would end up being the QB of the secondary'. From what I read in that article, it seems Bowen is still starting.

Wire will backup again and be the special teams demon he can be. Bowen will come out the winner in this competition.

Coy Wire does not belong back there...how many seasons are going to hinge on our weakness with him in the lineup? If we had better protection in there the last two seasons when instead Wire was in there getting toasted we probably would have been playoff bound.
