Well, after months of thinking this guy could be ours at 8, things a re changing quick.

Jets | V. Davis entering the picture
Thu, 20 Apr 2006 06:29:33 -0700
Bob Glauber and Ken Berger, of Newsday, report there is increased speculation in league circles that the New York Jets (http://www.kffl.com/team/27/nfl) are giving serious consideration to drafting Maryland TE Vernon Davis (http://www.kffl.com/player/13477/nfl), whom some scouts consider one of the best talents at his position in years. The 6-3, 254-pound Davis has been on the rise on draft boards all spring because of his athleticism, 4.4 speed in the 40-yard dash and ability to stretch the field. Last season at Maryland, Davis had 51 catches for 871 yards and six touchdowns.

Saints | Team conducted pre-draft visit with V. Davis
Thu, 20 Apr 2006 06:11:52 -0700
Jimmy Smith, of the New Orleans Times-Picayune (http://www.kffl.com/link/147), reports the New Orleans Saints (http://www.kffl.com/team/25/nfl) conducted a pre-draft visit with Maryland TE Vernon Davis (http://www.kffl.com/player/13477/nfl). Davis met with Saints (http://www.kffl.com/team/25/nfl) owner Tom Benson at a hotel Tuesday night, April 18, ate dinner and met informally with the coaching staff that also was in attendance, according to one of the player's agents. The Saints (http://www.kffl.com/team/25/nfl) also met with four other players during that timeframe.

Now, that stuff can just be smokescreens to lure teams away from where they are truly headed.

But, if in fact Davis has become so hot that he could be taken at 2 or 4, theres no way he drops to 8.

Moreover, if Davis goes at 2 or 4, there are some very dumb teams at the top of this draft. The Jests blow. They have no QB, period. They will have a shot at at LEAST the 3rd best and most likely the 2nd best or 1st best in there eyes at 4, yet they take a TE?

They have no RB, no Pass rusher anymore, no stud OT, nothing and there record shows it. But they take a TE? Thats just stupid.

NO, I would not clamor for Davis at 4, at 8? yes. But NOT at 4. If we stunk that bad, we should be talking about a franchise QB, top RB, or top D player at 4, not a TE.

At 2? Are you kidding me? They get the top QB or the top RB, or even the top DE and they take a TE? That is monumentaly stupid. I dont care if hes better than Gates.

But, I think its still a smokescreen. I think SF is the first spot that Davis fans have to sweat, the 6th pick.

Finally, if he goes ANY higher than 6, I wont be sad at all, I will think whatever team that took him is just plain stupid. Theres plenty of great players that will be at our pick, if Davis is there, great, if not, no problem, we have lots of needs and there lots of good talent.

lol dude its sad but true, VD aint lasting til number 8.

I been following this for a LONG TIME, lost count how many VD threads I've started.. I said it two months ago and I'll say it again.. I think he's the BEST PLAYER in the draft, regardless of position, when it comes to transitioning into a great pro. NOBODY in this draft is better than he is, NOt Mario, Not Bush, not Brick.. nobody..

SF has TWO first rounders, IF DAvis is there at 6 (he might be) they are DEFINITELY taking him now. NO way they let him slip past them.

If the Saints got Davis then managed to grab Mangold with the 2nd pick in round 2, their offense just got sick.

We'll see if Brees is healthy first...

They want to give Brees his Gates in N.O.

I hope they take him.

That's what I was thinking. Great, they can have Davis if it means we get Brick.

Stupid last ditch effort smokescreen. Noticed how Marv hasn't intentionally leaked anything and just kept his mouth shut? That's called CLASS.

Pat, its like I said in the other post, SF may be posturing to move up with 2 1st's.

Or they could trade with us letting us move to 6, still get say Huff, Justice, DeAngelo Williams at 8, and get another pick. We could move to 6 for our 8 and a 3rd rounder.

Move for Davis? doesnt seem smart. But if hes as good as we both think he is, he could be a steal at 6.

Anyways, SF is NOT a lock to take Davis at 6, and if he drops past SF, hes ours. I could EASILY see SF take Hawk or even Huff.

Around this time is the worst time to listen to rumors about what teams want. It's virtually all smoke screens now and almost everything you hear is a lie. I watched the ESPN Sportscenter draft special last night and was laughing when one of the analysts asked...Mel Kiper I think, if there was any truth to the Houstons really wanting Mario Williams and exclaiming that he was possibly the best player in the draft. The answer was simple and direct. Around this time, you should believe nothing you hear. Everything is a lie. What teams, GMs and coaches talked about 2 months ago in terms of need and want, that has not likely changed and that is along the lines of what you should go with.

Amen. I pray he is gone by our pick, so we're not even tempted to take him.

Isn't that just awesome - we hire Marv Levy, and now we can act all condescending and arrogant towards the rest of the league.
