2 round pick

Why do we have the 42 overall pick? If we have the 8th pick, wouldn't it make sense that we would have the 40th pick. If I'm not mistaken 8 plus 32 = 40. Can anyone answer this question/

Arizona and Detroit had the same 5-11 record. It rotates each round.

We pick #10 in Round 2, #9 in Round 3, back to #8 in Round 4...etc..

Yea, we lucked out being the first of the three 5-11 teams to get the 8th pick...Screw the first 2nd
