    New rules give Sabres extra spring in their step

    One of the underrated aspects of the Sabres when they took the ice Saturday night against Philadelphia in the opening round of the Stanley Cup playoffs was their appearance. There were no sunken cheeks, raccoon eyes or the sallow complexion of a prison inmate who has been in solitary confinement for six weeks. Consider the next-to-last regular-season victory over Toronto, during which Tie Domi, a remnant of the old ways of the NHL, body-slammed Jay McKee to the ice long after the issue had been decided. That was a semi-nightly occurrence before hockey went straight and such practices took a physical toll. more
