Here it is. A thread to discuss the draft!

What a slow, boring draft so far.

I wonder if anyone is going to make a pick in round one. I don't think any player available is worth $10 mil. I highly doubt there will even be more than one or two guys taken in rounds 2-3.

It will be an interesting draft to say thew least a lot of players will be waaaaaay over paid.

That Guy

I'm making a pick with the first 7.5 pick. So if you want my guy, you're gonna have to spend $10 mil.

Forward_Lateral
04-23-2006, 09:05 PM
It will be interesting, that's for sure.

Devin
04-23-2006, 09:42 PM
I prob wont pick til 5 mil.

I just cant justify spending 7.5 mil (and truthfully to some degree 5 mil) on the talent pool available.

Wow. Nate Clements was overpaid at $7.5 last year and I think he's even more overpaid now. I guess if you can't beat the Jags you have to overpay for their 3rd string cornerback. :roflmao:

When told about Clements signing with the Playas GM Olander was quoted as saying, "ha ha ha oh stomach hurts stop ha ha ha, wait you're serious?"

you're all nuts.... i want to make the playoffs as much as anyone, but paying all that money for average players is going to hurt you in terms of 2nd tier players and depth.

anyway.... i'm not feeling the pressure... i have a couple needs but i'll be looking for baragains and a team that can be ready to play NEXT year when Our #1 overall is eligable.

wonder who that might be......

9 players to draft, 29 million in cap space = 3.2 million per player. I'd rather over pay for guys rated 7 then guys rated 5 or lower.

I don't mind a little trash talking, but if you brag anymore I'm going to blow my brains out. Yeah, your team won the first ever Hunter Kelly Championship.....Congratulations Bro! But now it's a new year with a whole bunch of new owners...we are starting over again with a new season. Let your old championship rest and focus on how good your team is now and how much you are going to kick the Playa's ass.

If you want to keep letting people know that you won the league, I suggest you tattoo it on your ass or put it on your sig. Either way, :stfu:

The Jaguars, who only lost 1 game last year on their way to winning the championship, hope to go undefeated just like they did last year on their way to the 1st ever BZFL Hunter Kelly Championship.

My team won't be in contention for a title this year. The only other QB I had was Mark Brunell. He would've been ok for this season but I wouldn't have had a damn thing after that.

I'm building for the future. If McNabb misses some games I still have Mark Brunell to come in. He will do alright.

McNabb still played decent before he had Owens. He should play well after him too. If not then it's only a 1 year deal and I can easily get rid of him next year. If he plays good this year then I can re-sign him for a couple more years. I'm not contending for a title this year and the chance to have a possible great QB was too much to pass up.

If he plays good then I keep him. If he plays bad then I can get rid of him. It's a no lose situation. There isn't any risk in going after him.

I gave him a 7.5 mil tag because I knew someone would be dumb enough to pay him 10 mil and that in turn would mess up their ability to pick other players thus weaken their team, the same logic went into the tagging of Culpepper, I wanted to retain neither player, but didnt want someone to get them dirt cheap either. If I wanted to retain them both I had enough cap space to tag both of them at 10 mil thus ensuring me to keep them.

Once again thanks for grabbing the TO bait and selecting him at 10 mil

Have to own the game to see the player durability, but its an easy formula if they missed 1 game or less usually a 5, 2-4 games a 4, 5-6 games a 3, 7-9 games a 2, more than 9 games a 1

the only reason that TO will outproduce Porter this year is that Porter will by #3 WR and will not be on the field that much, if he where a starter on someones team he would outproduce Owens in every SIM made by man, TO being suspended for 9 games is looked at as he being injured for 9 games but I guess facts just dont matter to you, and yes you won last year congrats but that was LAST year

Those other teams may like getting an expensive overpaid players for one year, but I don't. So, the $5 million rounds work for me. :D

The only thing left in them rounds are 6 or lower rated players. Them aren't anybody you will be keeping after this year either.

The prices of the draft picks there isn't any of them worth keeping after this year unless you're lucky enough to find a 6 rated guy in the very late rounds for a couple million that could help you out and maybe improve. Most likely by that time they will be gone though and the only thing left will be 5 or lower rated players.

You have to draft good and build your team around the draft. Pick up good players for cheap that will be with you for a long time. With the extra money left then you can go out and get a couple FA's to improve a certain area for 1 season. The only guys who will be cheap and valuable enough to keep around for one year will be draft picks.

Good pick with Locklear...He was my target in the next round. He is a very solid young starter for a good running team. he will make you happy for awhile.

I was going to pass on him in the next round.

I was gonna wait til the 5 mil round, but 1 went, then Mikey panicked.....I couldnt go with a 5 at OT this year so Had to take him.

Looks like the Pimps and Rampage are developing a rivalry

Most of us only need to fill a couple spots and are satisfied with what we got. Besides, what made you an expert on this league? Didn't you just join this within the last few weeks???

That's only common sense that you need to build the foundation of your team around good cheap young talent. The FA's cost too much. You could never do it. They are just hired help till you find somebody cheaper.

I never said I was an expert. Sorry I took your starting QB. You shouldn't have left him out there.

That's what the FA draft is about: making moves to help your team.

I am sure I am doing wonders for my team being on vacation for 11 days. Oh well while you guys are sweating out your picks Ive been sweating out by the pool.

Canadian'eh!

i wasn't sweating.... i had a plan to not overpay for average players that are 1 year stopgaps and go for younger talent.

Thanks ryjam. I was going to wait til the $5 million round, but I knew he wouldn't be there when I picked again. Hopefully he'll be an 8 or 9 next year.

You aren't looking to make friends, are you Fever?

Good pickup, but are you forgetting about the salary cap? You need to sign 12 more players and now only have $13.3 million left. You'll be signing a lot of cheap guys, wont ya?

It's always nice to have friends, or @ least a friendly relationship w/ the fellow owners. It helps in regard to making trades.

I need to worry about trying to find stars first and then worry about the depth. I'm trying to build my team for the future. This is another pick where it will be a steal if he returns to form and if he doesn't then I get rid of him after this year.

I'll be signing about 7 players in the very late rounds for about a total of 3 million and that will leave me 10 million for 5 other players to take a chance on.

They will mostly be 3rd stringers that won't see the field that often. I'll look for the draft to try and find some good depth and possible starters.

My starting team is mostly filled now. There's a few guys I'd rather not have starting but I'll try to find their replacements in the draft this year.

Outside of Chad Clifton where I just needed a good starter to protect my QB's, McNabb and Lewis are guys I'm taking a chance on and hoping they return to form for the future.

Whatever guy I took in the 3rd round for 7.5 million I knew wouldn't be on my team next year. Clifton is just a 1 year hired gun.

I won't be able to afford any of the guys I would've drafted for 7.5 million next year. Whoever I got would've been gone.

I thought about taking Locklear or Starks instead of Clifton but I knew I wouldn't be able to afford to keep them for 7.5 million next year so I went with the best one just for this season.

I'm surprised how Locklear is rated that high in this game. He is shown as the backup to Ashworth on all the depth charts I've seen.

I wanted to wait till the 3 million dollar rounds to get Lewis but I couldn't take the chance of somebody else taking him.

I tried to work out possible trades but couldn't come to any definite agreements. Lewis is worth the chance. He has 1 year to prove himself.

Thanks,
The canadians made my choice easier plus the fact I also needed a body to protect my QB.

The interesting part of the FA draft is that it takes up the pick from NEXT years draft as well. So all those owners picking in the high rounds won't even get a high round pick next season...
