Do you have to take on the entire contract that the current owner has for him or can you sign him for as many years as you care to keep him.

If the player was signed for 5 years can you cut it down to 3 years without any penalties?

That sucks. The player I have a chance to get is too old for a 5 year contract :(

You could always release him later on and just take 1/2 the cap hit.

You can cut years off contracts, but u gotta eat half of whatever you cut off in the year u cut it off.

Looks like I'll have to pass. That's how you end up ruining your cap.
