With their first pick in the 7th round, the Buffalo Bills select....

    OT Terrance Pennington

Three-year letterwinner and returning starter who enters preseason camp as the starter at strong tackle after starting all 12 games on the quick side last year...coaches are looking for him to step in and be the next in a line of outstanding players at a position that has been manned over the past 3 years by two first team all-MWC selections and NFL caliber players in Jason Lenzmeier and Claude Terrell...at 6-7, 319, he is one of the largest of a massive group of linemen known as "The Hitmen"...took time to grow into his body, but has made major strides in the weight room over the past two years and has gotten the physical and technical aspects of his performance in synch...turned in a strong 2004 campaign, his first as a full-time starter, but coaches believe he has yet to show what he's truly capable of...boasts outstanding power in his upper body and has improved his lower body strength...425 bench, 365 incline, 301 power clean and 500 squat...has a good understanding of the offensive system and doesn't make many mental mistakes...has also done a nice job of keeping his weight down over the past two years...29 career games with 16 starts.

        http://www.nfldraftcountdown.com/ima...uegradient.gif) repeat-y" colSpan=2>Terrance Pennington
        Height: 6-7 1/4 | Weight: 345 | 40-Time: 5.40

        Official Bio

        Strengths:
Has outstanding size and huge frame with long arms...Very strong and works hard in the weight room...Displays good feet...An excellent pass blocker...A solid athlete with good quickness...Pretty good technician...Still has a lot of potential.

        Weaknesses:
Lacks a nasty demeanor on the field...Can improve as a run blocker and doesn't get as much of a push as he should...Only started two years in college and took a while to develop...May not be able to stay at left tackle once he reaches the NFL.

        Notes:
Father, Henry, is a Stanford graduate and played offensive tackle for the Dallas Cowboys from 1978-81...Played left tackle in college but might have to move to the right side at the next level...Would certainly seem to have the measurables.

Maybe a lineman for goal line situations once he is off inactive list.

Re: With their first pick in the 7th round, the Buffalo Bills select....

"Pennington is a two-year starter who made a successful switch to the demanding left tackle position as a senior, replacing departed All-American Claude Terrell (St. Louis). It took a few years for Pennington to time to grow into his body, but he has made major strides in the weight room over the past two years....

                        ....
Pennington is a big, physical blocker who relies more on his size and hand punch rather than technique to sustain. He is a late bloomer who has had weight problems in the past, and he lacks the footwork and body control to be a pro left tackle. He will need to return to the right side, where he will not have to combat the edge rushers as much....

                        ....
Pennington is a good learner who does not make costly mistakes. However, he just lacks the agility and sudden moves needed to handle one-on-one confrontation on the left side. Back on the right side, he will not have his weaknesses exposed as much. Due to his body mass and upper body power, he is well worth a look in the later rounds...."

That's probably why they took him. He might get a look at RT or even inside at OG. He's a big guy who might do better playing on the inside in the NFL where he can use his body to neutralize the big NTs and DTs who have been killing the Bills the last couple of years. Sounds like a developmental pick who will take 2-3 years to show what he can do, but has the potential to learn how to get better.
Those who do not learn from the past are doomed to repeat it. And, thus it was that they surrendered their freedom; not with a bang, but without even a whimper.
