If you were the GM of an expansion team, who would you choose to be the teams first HC? Note: pick a coach that isn't already a HC in the NFL.

Hate to say it, but the best guy for that job would probably be Jimmy Johnson. He pretty much built the 90s Cowboys from nothing (2-14) abd created a champion.

If you could get him to come back, he'd definitely be a top choice.

Jimmy J is overated. He won in Dallas thanks to all the great players he got via the Hershal walker trade.

Seems I remember according to the Media Miami was going to be a dynasty once he went there! HAH!

My choice would be..............................Tom Coughlin.............I hate him but he's done the expansion thing before

The only problem with Coughlin is alot of his former players have said they didn't enjoy playing for him. I personally think he is a great coach, but my opinion may be biased. I am very good friends with his nephew. We are good friends from high school. I actually met Tom C. at my friends graduation party several years ago. He seems like he is very intense all the time. I would love to see him take over the Syracuse program, but I think he wants to stay in the pro ranks.

I think I'd have to take Ted Cottrell. He has always been able to put together a well coached, strong defense regardless the parts, and defense would be the key to winning early for an expansion team. Furthermore, I wouldn't go with a retread like JJ or Pete Carroll, and I think the record of successful college coaches making the transition to the NFL is fairly poor. So for my money, I'd give a successful D coordinator like Cottrell the job.
