I know there is now way to prove it here but I've been telling Clump for years how more important it is to win game 2 of a series...look back at round 1. (Yes, technically game 7 is the most important). At the very least game 2 is more important than game 1.

teams that won game 1 won 4/8 series
teams that won game 2 won 6/8 series
teams that won game 3 won 5/8 series
teams that won game 4 won 5/8 series

2004
game 1 winners won 11 of 15 series
game 2 winners won 11 of 15 series.
game 3 winners won 7 of 15 series
game 4 winners won 7 of 15 series

2003
game 1 winners won 7/15 series
game 2 winners won 10/15 series
game 3 winners won 7/15 series
game 4 winners won 8/15 series

2002
game 1 winners won 8/15 series
game 2 winners won 10/15 series
game 3 winners won 8/15 series
game 4 winners won 11/15 series

2001
game 1 winners won 12/15 series
game 2 winners won 11/15 series
game 3 winners won 11/15 series
game 4 winners won 7/15 series

2000
game 1 winners won 11/15 series
game 2 winners won 12/15 series
game 3 winners won 9/15 series
game 4 winners won 9/15 series

1999
game 1 winners won 8/15 series
game 2 winners won 13/15 series
game 3 winners won 8/15 series
game 4 winners won 8/15 series

I agree, in game 2 you now have a grasp of what the other teams tendencys are and the series becomes who can adjust better. Obviously the better team should be able to do this to a much higher degree, but that's why they play the game.

Out of those game 2 winners, how many of those teams won game 1 as well?

Why is 2004 combined, unlike the rest?

As far as those teams that won game 2 and moved on, how many of them won game 3 and or 4 as well.

although i would have to look up the numbers i do remember that there were a great number of teams that won games 1 & 2 moving on to the next round...

also...i noticed that if you remove series that went 4-0 game 2 becomes even more important.

get busy stat boy this is important

quite honestly i never noticed this before. i always thought game 4 was the most important because it almost always either puts a team even or down 3-1. but its hard to argue with this data

i mean it could still be a simple anomaly so id like to see if over a longer period of time to be sure but its certainly compelling

the explanation of making adjustments sounds like a good one. ive been thinking about this since i saw the data yesterday and i cant think of anything else that would explain it

If a team wins game 7, what is the percentage that they win the series?

Since clump maintains he does all your work for you, that should free up at least 9 hours per day.

If a team wins game 7, what is the percentage that they win the series?

I think this is the crux of the equation. If while one team wins at least 4 games, I believe the most the other could win is 3. I'll have to check the stats from the last 10 years before I can feel confident enough to say this be true.

I do know however that based on the last 8 years (I didn't have enough time to check the entire history however), there has only been 1 team per final series that has actually won the Stanely Cup .

While I feel that there is an importance to said position, I can say for sure that even without a full quantitative analysis regarding restictions, liabilities and a specifity of all obligations that corrilate to an answer of acceptance, NO FREAKIN" WAY IN HELL.

1999
game 2 winners won 13/15 series

It's funny, the Sabres lost game 2 of the ECF to Toronto. They went on to beat them in 5 games.

The other team to win a game 2 in 1999 and LOSE the series. Carolina!!!!!

Kind of funny.
