Miami worked out Vick at quarterback and wide receiver during its minicamp. Having already acquired former Detroit quarterback Joey Harrington on Friday, the Dolphins seem more interested in taking a closer look at Vick as a wide receiver, which could sway his decision between the CFL and NFL.

Monday, May 15, 2006 - The Miami Dolphins signed a pair of unrestricted free agents in tight end Keith Heinrich (from Cleveland) and linebacker Keith Newman (from Minnesota). Both players signed one-year contracts. Also on Monday, the team announced that it signed cornerback Michael Lehan as a free agent and wide receiver/quarterback/ specialist Marcus Vick as an undrafted college free agent.

I knew that we were also in talks with Keith Newman who recently played for the Vikings, but drafted by Buffalo, so I see we've now signed him as well. Even though it was 2-3 years ago, any thoughts on Newman?? I've heard that he may not be making plays on every down, but he's a good leader, plays tough, etc.

In regards to the Vick signing, I'm surpised that we signed the goof. I read a Q&A from a Miami Herald beat writer, and other sources seemed like they were going to pass on Vick, but I guess if nothing works out, then it's not like we;re losing anything. They have him listed as QB/WR/Return specialist, but I'm not sure where he'll really fit in. It seems like a lot of some of last year and this year's signings have involved peeps that can play more than one spot, so I guess it's good to have some sort of value with that. I just hope Vick can finally mature and smarten up and tap into this supposed talent that others have said he has.

Newman was a solid starter for the Bills when he got in there, but must be getting near his tenth year in the league. He had first or second round athletic ability, but never really put it all together at UNC and slipped to the fourth round.

Will probably have to fight for a roster spot, and if he's a starter at OLB would be a step backwards for the improving Miami defense.

Vick reminds me a lot of Seneca Wallace but add in the "character issues."

So, don't count him out from making the team, how much he actually contributes will be minimal however.

If he really stinks it up in TC, then I doubt he'd be around obviously, but they wouldn't have given him even the undrafted FA contract if they had no plans whatsoever to keep him in the future.

Say what you will about Saban. He's a good coach and a seems to have an eye for talent. But he also seems to be the type who wants to win at any cost, even if it means using players that have less than stellar reputations both on and off the field. I'm all for giving some players a second opportunity, but at some point you have to draw the line. At some point this is going to come back and bite Saban in the @$$.
