Hope Urho Vaakanainen is okay. Was carted off the ice after going hard into the end boards in game vs San Jose. Nasty tumble pic.twitter.com/zhZpz5qMbO
Kevin weekes tweeted out to keep an eye on Dallas today. WGR just tweeted out IF a sabres/stars trade is pending. I feel like they wouldn't have tweeted that out unless there's some smoke there.

RIP Dave Dryden. One of our Goalies the first 4 years of the franchise in the 1970's and older brother of HOF goalie Ken Dryden. Age 81. Godspeed.

Bruins sign Mitchell Miller.
You may remember him being drafted by the coyotes, and the yotes denouncing the pick after it came to light he bullied a black, disabled fellow student for years, including repeated use of horrific racial slurs.
The outcry was so bad, the bruins reneged the pick, especially after the NHL said he will probably never be eligible to play in the league.
What a **** show

Ken Campbell, who pens the Hockey Unfiltered newsletter on Substack, ripped into that mess; unfortunately, you have to be a paying subscriber to read the whole thing.

Bruins did not sign him. Or rather, decided to abandon the idea.

Former rangers first round pick, and OHL 50 goal scorer Brennen Othmann was traded from the Flint Firebirds. My dad, who is a season ticket holder was shocked. Byf further reading, apparently Othmann was toxic in the locker room and the FBs just wanted him gone

Alexis lafreniere is a healthy scratch for the Rangers.
Things are not going well for him and the rangers.

Tage Thompson signs a big contract and explodes on the ice.
JT Miller signs a big contract and gets lazy and brings the lame.
These two videos are telling about how Miller has done recently in Vancouver. The Canucks wishing they signed Horvat and not Miller, I'm guessing:
Well that he cleared waivers means word is out on him w/in NHL inner circles.

Someone may be interested in trading for Jakub Vrana
Colton David of Daily Faceoff: Frank Seravalli and Steven Ellis on Daily Faceoff Live on if Detroit Red Wings forward Jakub Vrana will get trade interest after he cleared waivers.
Seravalli notes that there were a lot of people surprised that Vrana didn’t get claimed off waivers.
Ellis adds that you have to wonder what the relationship is between the Wings and Vrana now. Is there something else going on behind the scenes? He’s been through the players assistance program. Will they give him another shot as he was an important player for them before?
Seravalli’s adds that teams are intrigued and spoke to one team who internally talked about trading for him.
“The suggestion I made was, it sort of feels like that relationship is indeed broken; why not offer up a deal that involves Detroit retaining $1.8 or $1.9 million or whatever the number is that equates to a buyout for Vrana?
Maybe that’s something that would be palatable for Steve Yzerman and the Red Wings if they could get something back in return for him. So for that team you don’t take Vrana on at full price, you get him for a bit of a discount on the cap and a player that can contribute in a big way if you treat him the right when it comes to Stanley Cup playoff time. ”
If Yzerman wants to part ways with a "good" player, there must be more to the story. The Sabres have spent a lot of time creating a locker room culture from within. I don't think they will risk spoiling it by taking such a chance on an outside player such as this. I just don't see it happening. Although, it will be interesting to see where he lands. Don't the Islanders still need scoring (LINK)?
The thought was there was a gentleman's agreement that no team would claim Vrana, as it was believed he needed more time in the AHL.
That, and with his recovery, the league decided no one would claim. That's the story

Media, for sure. I think the thought was someone who just went through the assistance program shouldn't be claimed when their life is in settling chaos, if that makes sense.
That said, I think him coming into the lockerroom like the sabres would have been great for him. It's such a great locker room
