Are Packers Fans Ignorant For Lobbying For Favre?
Yes the guy is a legend. But, what he is doing is amounting to holding the team hostage. How the hell do you get out of this situation if you are Green Bay? The worst part is the fans are rallying behind him. I question as to why? He quit on them after the season. He almost did it the year before.
If you commit to Favre the soap opera continues. You probably permanently damage the confidence and value of Aaron Rodgers. I would be worried he would show up a camp and say "his heart isn't in it."
How he did what he is doing is just ridiculous. It has definately tarnished him in my eyes.
It makes me appreciate the way Kelly left alot more.
Re: Are Packers Fans Ignorant For Lobbying For Favre?
just like many here have their blue and red glasses, they have their green and yellow glasses.
They remember the records and the Super Bowl and Favre resurrecting a team that was useless the year before and they want it to continue. They're clinging to the past rather than the future, but for them the past was good and the future is unknown.
Re: Are Packers Fans Ignorant For Lobbying For Favre?
No way is Favre to blame for all of this. Favre retired and now he regrets his decision. He made a mistake and has said as much himself. The Packers owe it to Brett Favre to either take him back and let him compete for the starting QB position or trade him. If they want to start Rodgers and move on, then grant him his wish and trade him. I have a feeling that this could get really ugly if Favre wants to play and feels as though he has no chance to start and Green Bay won't trade him.
With regards to Kelly, there's no comparison. Kelly needed to retire, while Favre can still play.

OK. Favre at his current level is still a top ten QB. Some of you people act like last season never happened.
Re: Are Packers Fans Ignorant For Lobbying For Favre?
GB got a 1st round bye, a home playoff game and they lost in OT last year, remember?? Who would give them better odds to return to that game and potentially improve on it, Rodgers or Farve??
There is no odd colored glasses here, nor anyway around the fact that Farve is a gunslinger and can still play at a very high level. So he threw a bad pass in a playoff OT, he freaking got them there in the first place. I cannot see any reason why GB shouldn't start Brett and if Rodgers doesn't like it he can pound sand. The only thing for sure with Farve is, if the is a football game being played he would like to be behind center and body willing he will be.
Re: Are Packers Fans Ignorant For Lobbying For Favre?
Look where GB ended up:
Is there a problem with Farve as the starter?

Favre is, and always has been, a "feast or famine" QB. He's either going to light up the other team or throw 4 INT's. Fortunately, he's been a lot more feast than famine over the course of his career, but that situation is not sustainable forever. Eventually he's going to start looking more like 2006 Favre than 2007 Favre.
The best thing the Packers can do is let their fans have pleasant memories of Favre and let the future start now.

Then GB should pull the trigger and trade him. To tell him they're not going to trade him and he can come back up Rodgers is a joke. Let the man play.

no it's not. Best case scenario is that Favre has 2-3 good years left. Rodgers is still unproven but he looks decent so far and could be the QB for the next 8-10 years. Why should the Packers and the fans have to sacrifice that because Brett Favre changed his mind and wants to keep playing?
Re: Are Packers Fans Ignorant For Lobbying For Favre?
I agree with OP. I think it is a two part equation here. The Packers ahev commited to Rodgers. If they now switch course I think they have to move Rodgers on.
Then, what if Favre suddenly rethinks his decision again?
Now looking the other way... would you give up Favre for nothing if you had him?
This isn't really about talent in my eyes. It is about loyalty and doing the right thing. Favre has jacked the Pack around for two seasons. Now he is crying victim over a situation he created.
He has a right to play, sure. But after the Pack makes a deal to get the most in return for either him or Rodgers.
Re: Are Packers Fans Ignorant For Lobbying For Favre?
Favre looks bad here, really bad actually imo. He's holding GB hostage and I don't think its fair to the team or the fans. He's putting himself first and everybody else can pretty much kiss his ass. Honestly Id go into camp and have an open QB competitions if he loses it, he rides the pine.

13-3 and he looks bad?? can we sign up for that record and look bad?? I'm in for looking bad if so.

You can't seem to seperate the actions that have transpired since last season ended (including he being the reason they lost their playoff game) and everything since that from the result. One season doesn't make a team, they have to worry about next season and the one after that, and after that, etc...

Why is it up to Green Bay to decide weather Favre will play next year or not? Like I said, if GB wants to move on, then thats there decision. But don't play these bull**** games where you're not going to give him a chance to start and not trade him.

Thats what I'm getting at. Either give him a chance to play in GB or move him in a trade. This really isn't rocket science. The guy wants to play and should be allowed to do so.
Re: Are Packers Fans Ignorant For Lobbying For Favre?
If I was a Packers fan, I'd want to move on. He's definitely holding them hostage, and he doesn't deserve that right anymore.
Although, I hope Miami gets him. Take him for 3 years or whatever, and he can groom Henne.
Re: Are Packers Fans Ignorant For Lobbying For Favre?
No more ignorant than the fans here who think every year is our year even though we've made little to no progress in the last decade.
Re: Are Packers Fans Ignorant For Lobbying For Favre?
Let him move on from the Packer's so he can sign on with the Buffalo Bills. Time for Aaron Rogers to take the helm. This would be the right move.
I would take him in a heart beat to back up Trent. Plus Farve will be a great mentor to Trent.
It would make my year to see NE get what's coming to them. That is getting mugged twice by the Bills. :snicker:
